Abstract: A strain and crack sensor senses an amount of strain induced in an object. A receiving planar antenna has a first resonant frequency and is configured to receive a querying signal at the first resonant frequency. A transmitting planar antenna has a second resonant frequency that is twice the first resonant frequency. At least one of the receiving planar antenna and the transmitting planar antenna is bonded to the object so that at least one of strain induced in the object or a crack formed in the object causes a shift in at least one of the first resonant frequency or the second resonant frequency. A matching element is in electrical communication with the first planar antenna and the second planar antenna. The matching element is configured to cause the transmitting planar antenna to radiate a response signal in response to the querying signal.

In contrast to DBS cards containing glass fiber structures that interact with basic analytes and other DBS card having adsorbing fibers that tend to separate blood constituents as the sample spreads through the fibers, the biological sample carrier is substantially inert to drug analytes.

Abstract: Disclosed is a gas cylinder ratchet driver tool that is specifically suited for opening and closing valve posts of gas cylinders. The tool comprises an outer handle body for one-handed use and an external ratchet switching actuator. Within the handle body is an internal housing that supports a rotatable socket therein. The socket comprises an elongated length with a lower working end adapted to engage a gas cylinder valve post and a ratchet gear upper end. A first and second wedge plate supported by the housing and acted upon by the actuator controls the ratchet direction by bearing against the ratchet gear, determining ratchet direction or ratchet lock. A flat spring beneath the actuator manipulates the wedge plates against the ratchet gear to control the ratchet direction. The socket working end comprises two flat portions to facilitate placement of the socket onto a gas cylinder valve post in emergency situations.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of using an apparatus for refacing a tubular connection is provided. In one example, the apparatus has a mandrel connectable to a threaded portion of a tubular connection and two face plates bearing cutters for refacing surfaces of the tubular connection. In this example, the cutting is controlled by an engaging nut moving along a threaded portion of a drive shaft, and the two face plates may be spaced apart at a fixed distance to maintain the distance between the torque-stop surface and the primary surface after refacing. Also, the apparatus uses a locking pin to assist in tightening or loosening the mandrel into place using the remainder of the apparatus. An air-oil system is provided to supply air and oil to the cutting surfaces as the apparatus refaces the shoulders of the connection. An exemplary pin refacer and an exemplary box refacer are both disclosed.
