  • Patent number: 9007912
Abstract: Serial clustering uses two or more network devices connected in series via a local and/or wide-area network to provide additional capacity when network traffic exceeds the processing capabilities of a single network device. When a first network device reaches its capacity limit, any excess network traffic beyond that limit is passed through the first network device unchanged. A network device connected in series with the first network device intercepts and will process the excess network traffic provided that it has sufficient processing capacity. Additional network devices can process remaining network traffic in a similar manner until all of the excess network traffic has been processed or until there are no more additional network devices. Network devices may use rules to determine how to handle network traffic. Rules may be based on the attributes of received network packets, attributes of the network device, or attributes of the network.

  • Patent number: 9007917
Abstract: After statically provisioned paths are created through an Ethernet network, trunks may be created to extend along those paths. The trunks extend between pairs of NNI interfaces on either end of the path, and Ethernet OAM may be run over the trunks to detect connectivity along the paths. Service instances and service groups may be provisioned over particular paths through the network. Each service instance/service group is associated with a trunk and the Ethernet OAM service on the trunk may be used to provide Ethernet connectivity OAM for the service instance/service group. Upon detection of a failure on the trunk, the service instances/service groups associated with the trunk may be caused to failover to an alternate path through the network. Thus, a single Ethernet OAM service instance may be used to provide connectivity verification so that connectivity detection does not need to be performed on each individual service instances/service group.

  • Patent number: 9007947
Abstract: Mobile broadband traffic has been exploding in wireless networks resulting in an increase of interferences and reduced operator control. Networks are also becoming more heterogeneous putting additional demand in interference management. Scheduler schedules uplink transmissions from UEs based on a load prediction algorithm that typically assumes worst case. However, UEs do not always use full power granted, and thus, much of granted radio resources are wasted. To address these and other issues, technique(s) to accurately predict/estimate other cell interferences and thermal noise separately and to accurately predict/estimate grant utilization probability and variance is(are) described. Inventive estimation technique(s) can be used to schedule UEs to more fully utilize available radio resources. Extended Kalman filtering can be adapted for use in estimation providing low order computational complexity.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for estimating user throughput as a function of network load. The function that governs a relationship between user throughput and network load is derived after simulating network traffic during busy hours on a wireless network. The simulated traffic is shaped to be similar to packet traffic received on the network. In turn, the simulated traffic is assigned to one or more carriers that are configured to resemble the network carriers. Upon processing the simulated traffic, user throughput is calculated and a function is derived from the network load during the busy hour and the calculated user throughput. The derived function is employed to predict the load at which user throughput falls below acceptable levels.

Abstract: Path determination constraints may be encoded in the form of a program having one or more instructions. Each of instructions may include an operation code, and operands (or pointers to locations where operands are stored). In this way, an extensible, interoperable way for a nodes (e.g., label-switching routers) to communicate constraints within a network is provided. Such constraints may be inserted (e.g., as one or more CONSTRAINT objects) into signaling messages (e.g., a PATH RSVP message). By enabling the signaling of constraints, the determination of constraint-based (label-switched) paths can be distributed among a number of (label-switching) routers or other nodes. Upon receiving a message with constraints (e.g.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for group owner (GO) renegotiation are provided. For example, the method and apparatus may be used for GO renegotiation in a wireless personal network (WPAN), for example, a 60-gigahertz (60 GHz) peer-to-peer (P2P) wireless network. The incumbent group owner (e.g., personal base station set (PBSS) control point (PCP)) controls the operation of the group. GO renegotiation can occur, for example, when a newly arriving device (e.g., a prospective group owner) is trying to connect to the PBSS and/or, for example, with PCP rearrangement among members of an existing group. As an example, after the formation of the group, the PCP may want to relinquish the role of being the PCP. A procedure is described for deciding among clients and the PCP which device will assume the role of group owner from the existing PCP in the event the role of group owner is to be reassigned.
