Abstract: A method and system for handling a missed approach of an aircraft. A group of signals that indicates a go-around maneuver occurring during an approach of the aircraft to land at an airport is detected on a data bus in the aircraft. An alert to an air traffic control system for the airport when the signal is detected. The alert indicates an occurrence of the go-around maneuver, enabling rerouting of air traffic in a manner that enhances safety.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for encoding and compressing real-time GPS location data collected by a transceiver unit mounted in an aircraft, for transmitting the data and for receiving the data at a ground station configured for decoding the data. Data can be sampled at one-second intervals, then encoded and transmitted in data packets at longer timed intervals. The encoding method can utilize information about the operating characteristics of the aircraft to reduce the number of bits required for the data packets. Multiple encoding schemes can be used to compare in real-time to select the most efficient method of encoding on a packet-by-packet basis.

Abstract: Navigation systems and methods communicate a landing location to an aircraft. The method comprises collecting data from multiple sensor systems of the aircraft over time while the aircraft is above the terrain. The method also comprises determining on-going pose estimates of the aircraft over time based on input data from the multiple sensor systems. The method further comprises detecting a non-natural marker in the image data from the camera system, with the non-natural marker being physically located on the terrain at a desired landing location for the aircraft. The method further comprises determining a bearing of the non-natural marker relative to the aircraft from the image data captured by the camera system. The method comprises determining a location of the non-natural marker in a global coordinate frame based on a 3D mapping of terrain below the aircraft and the determined bearing for the marker.

Abstract: Fluid activatable adhesive labels, label systems, and methods of making and using thereof are described herein. These labels are particularly useful with facesheets with low MVTR due to the inclusion and placement of sequestration components within the labels. The sequestration components are either embedded in an adhesive layer, in a separate tie-layer between the adhesive layer and the substrate, incorporated in the substrate, or incorporated into the adherend. Preferably the labels are clear. Following application of an activation fluid and, preferably following activation of the activatable adhesive layer, the sequestration materials adsorb the fluid from the polymer adhesive components over time, such as for about 0 to 72 hours. This dries the label and wets the sequestration components. Optionally, the container with the label is also subjected to a drying step to dry the sequestration components.

The visual display surface (12) would be visible to observers in front of the vehicle (16). The system (10) includes wireless communication hardware (60) that allows the visual display (11) to be programmed by a remote programming device (41). Each of the display devices (11) can be programmed to have a separate message and each message would scroll from left to right across the display surface (12) in a time coordinated manner so that the message appears to scroll consistently from left to right across the visual field of the plurality of display surfaces (12).

Abstract: The current disclosure is directed to systems and methods that process standard video signal data and that control a reflective display panel to brightly display videos and images in colors selected from a broad range of colors. In certain implementations, an input video/image signal is first transformed from a RGB encoding to an encoding based on a new color system that encodes colors using spectral, black, and white components. The reflective display panel includes an array of pixels, with each pixel comprising one or more self-parallelizing interferometric modulators (“SPIMs”). Each SPIM contains a plurality of electrodes disposed on a bottom plate, a fixed top plate, and a movable plate separated by a cavity. Appropriate voltages are applied to the electrodes to vary the cavity depth of the SPIM in order for the SPIM to reflect a color of a particular wavelength or to appear black or white.
