Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for detecting turn-to-turn and phase-to-phase winding short circuits in an electric motor. The motor is tested at a standstill condition by injecting a current signal into the virtual d-axis of the motor while controlling q-axis current to zero. Steady state feedback current from the motor is measured, and current harmonics are calculated using FFT or peak-to-peak techniques. It is determined that a short circuit is present in the winding if feedback current harmonics higher than a nominal level are detected, where the increased feedback current is an indication that winding inductance has decreased due to a short circuit. Testing at standstill using a small current advantageously prevents the possibility of damaging the motor and avoids inductance variation due to changing rotor position.

Abstract: Through-silicon vias (TSVs) are tested using a modified integrated circuit test probe array, an electron beam generation device, a beam direction control device and an electron beam detection device. The TSV extends through a silicon substrate with end portions exposed or accessible by contacts disposed on opposing upper and lower surfaces of the substrate. The test probe array includes a test probe that accesses the lower TSV end portion and applies an AC test signal. An electron beam is directed by the beam direction control device onto the upper substrate surface such that a beam portion reflected from the upper TSV end portion is captured by the electron beam detection device. The response patterns from the tester are input to the test circuits along with the output response of the die/IC to be compared. Also disclosed is the use of a response signal encoding scheme whereby the tester transmits response test commands to the test circuits, using a single signal per test circuit, to perform: (1) a compare die/IC output against an expected logic high, (2) a compare die/IC output against an expected logic low, and (3) a mask compare operation. The use of the signal encoding scheme allows functional testing of die and ICs since all response test commands (i.e. 1-3 above) required at each die/IC output can be transmitted to each die/IC output using only a single tester signal connection per die/IC output. In addition to functional testing, scan testing of die and ICs is also possible.

Here, each heliostat mirror generates a low intensity “signal beam”, directed at an angle off from the heliostat mirror's high intensity and sensor blinding “main beam” of reflected solar energy. The low intensity signal beams may be created by reflecting a small portion of the incident solar light at an angle from the main beam, by reflected artificial light, or from lasers shinning onto mirrors from known locations. The signal beams are detected by optical sensors mounted way from the main heliostat receiver focus, and can be used in a closed loop control system to efficiently ensure that individual heliostat mirrors in a heliostat array accurately track sunlight and direct the sunlight to a central receiver. Abstract: A technology is provided for determining a range of a target using multiple analog ramps. A slow ramp voltage level can be identified that indicates an approximate arrival time for a light pulse to be received as a target reflection after propagating towards the target. A slope number associated with the slow ramp voltage level can be identified, wherein the slope number is an integer ranging from 0 to N. An adjusted slope number can be calculated using the slope number and fast ramp information. A coarse range and a fine range of the target can be determined using the adjusted slope number. The range of the target can be calculated by adding the coarse range and the fine range.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a laser ranging calibration method and a laser range finder including a line laser generation module, an image capturing module and a processing module. The line laser generation module projects a line laser beam to a first direction from a first position. The image capturing module at a second position captures a ranging image in the first direction. When the ranging image includes a calibration target image of a calibration target having a first width, the processing module calculates a measured width of the calibration target according to a position of a line spot image of a laser spot on the calibration target image, obtains a calibration parameter according to the first width and the measured width, performs range finding according to the laser spot shown in the ranging image, and performs a calibration task using a calibration parameter.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for a hybrid radar system that integrates frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) mode and interferometry mode. The radar works as a time division system that continuously switches between the FMCW mode and interferometry mode. The FMCW mode is responsible for absolute range detection and the interferometry mode takes cares of the weak physiological movement monitoring. The respective accuracies in range detection and displacement measurement complements the advantages of the two radar modes, providing versatile performance. By steering the antenna beam, the proposed radar system becomes an ideal solution for indoor health care, human localization, and human-computer interaction. Objects or human targets with or without stationary clutters can be precisely located. At the same time, the targets' vital signs and gestures can be monitored.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for processing radar signals in a distributed array radar that includes a first airborne platform and at least one second airborne platform. Doppler filtered radar return samples are obtained and a weight value is calculated as a function of first clutter signals and second clutter signals. The weight value is employed in a weight vector that is computed, as well, from a steering vector that need not be matched to the target vector. The weight vector is applied to a signal vector corresponding to the Doppler filtered radar return samples. An open loop feedback is implemented and configured to create beam pattern nulls at angles corresponding to the plurality of first interference signals within each of the Doppler bins without substantially tracking a position or velocity of the first airborne platform or the at least one second airborne platform.

Abstract: A radar apparatus includes a targeting unit that irradiates a radar wave and recognizes a detection subject using a reflected wave thereof. The targeting unit extracts, as a target, a peak that is confirmed to have historical connection over measurement cycles equal to or more than a predetermined targeting threshold, from peaks extracted from a power spectrum generated by frequency analysis. A rainy-weather determining unit determines that weather is rainy when a number of erroneous detections is greater than a predetermined rainy-weather determination threshold. The number of erroneous detections is a number of peaks that have been detected in a previous measurement cycle or earlier by the targeting unit and are not confirmed to have historical connection to a peak detected in a current measurement cycle.

Abstract: A method for determining location information for an airborne target includes synthesizing a cyclic transmit signal, transmitting an electromagnetic beam corresponding to the cyclic transmit signal, providing a plurality of vertically offset return signals corresponding to at least two receive antennas that are vertically offset, down-converting the plurality of vertically offset return signals with the cyclic transmit signal to provide a corresponding plurality of baseband signals, determining magnitude and phase information for each vertically offset return signal as a function of range from the corresponding baseband signal, and determining elevation information for an airborne target from the magnitude and phase information. Azimuthal information for the airborne target may be determined by tracking amplitude variations in the return signal in response to azimuthal rotation of the receive antennas. A corresponding apparatus, system, and computer readable medium are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) and method of providing local fine timing assistance are generally described. Prior to storing a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-cellular time relationship in the UE and, when the network is unable to provide fine timing assistance, a GNSS receiver transmits a request to a modem. The modem, in response, periodically or as scheduled transmits a pulse and pulse timing information (PTI) including a pulse transmission time (PTT) based on cellular network time. The receiver determines a GNSS-cellular time relationship and obtains a GNSS satellite positioning signal and GNSS fix using the PTI. For pulses after the initial pulse, the PTI includes a time difference between the PTT and a PTT of the preceding pulse. The receiver determines a time difference between the PTT and GNSS fix. The modem is configured to terminate pulse transmission in response to receiving a termination request from the receiver.
