For instance, in some embodiments, video content may be parsed for information that can be used to predict what surfaces (e.g., computer graphics shapes to be rendered, as defined by vertices specifying the location and possibly other attributes of the shape) are most likely to be accessed, for example, by a display or a graphics processing unit (GPU) in the near future. In accordance with some embodiments, these surfaces may be pre-loaded, for example, into cache memory or other desired high-bandwidth memory in advance to minimize or otherwise reduce memory access latency. A capacitance sensor includes an electrode that generates a capacitance with respect to a detected conductor, such as a human body, positioned on the front surface side of the head. Because the capacitance sensor detects a change of a capacitance corresponding to a distance between the electrode and the detected conductor, whether the detected conductor approaches (contacts) the head or presses the head can be determined. In order to efficiently support real-time speech recognition for multiple users, a “producer/consumer” design pattern is applied to decouple speech processes that run at different rates in order to handle multiple processes at the same time. Furthermore, the speech recognition process is divided into multiple consumers in order to maximize hardware utilization. As a result, the platform architecture is able to process more than 45 real-time audio streams with an average latency of less than 0.3 seconds using one-million-word vocabulary language models.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for enhancing write current switching efficiencies during data write operations in a data storage device. In some embodiments, write data are described in the form a sequence of symbols of nT length where T is a channel clock rate and n is an integer over a selected range. Bi-directional write currents are applied to a write element to record the sequence of symbols to a storage medium. The write currents are switched between a first rail current and a second rail current for alternating symbols. The write currents are further transitioned to an intermediate current value for at least one channel clock period immediately preceding a next occurrence of a symbol boundary between an adjacent pair of symbols in the sequence.

Abstract: The invention generally relates to a system for achieving reduced head-media spacing (HMS) in a hard disk drive (HDD) by providing active control over the positioning of a read/write head relative to a rotating magnetic data recording and reading surface of a disk. The system is configured to monitor and adjust positioning of the read/write head in real, or near-real time during disk rotation to maintain the HMS between a magnetic transducer of the read/write head and the disk surface within a defined range, generally between 1.0 nm and 10.0 nm, and, in some embodiments, approximately 4.3 nm. The system replaces the conventional an air bearing surface (ABS) design with a fully active suspension to maintain the head flying height within the desired range. The system further allows for each of the magnetic transducer and disk surface to be to be devoid of any overcoat or lubricant layers.
