Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods to control directional drilling in borehole drilling for hydrocarbon wells are disclosed. An actual toolface orientation measurement value and an actual downhole torque on bit (DTOB) or actual downhole weight on bit (DWOB) measurement value for a drill string positioned in a borehole are determined. Responsive to a comparison of target measurement values and actual measurement values, error values are determined. A control command for one or more of a top drive, a drawworks, and a mud pump responsive to the DTOB or DWOB error value and the toolface orientation error value is determined. Additionally, one or more of the top drive, the drawworks, and the mud pump are operated responsive to the control command thereby to correct a toolface orientation of the drill string.

Abstract: A technique facilitates failsafe closure of a valve used in, for example, a subsea test tree. The technique utilizes a valve combined with a cutter oriented to sever well equipment passing through an interior passage of the valve. The valve is operatively coupled with an actuation system having an actuator piston which controls cutting and valve closure. The failsafe valve and the cutter are shifted to an open position by applying pressure in a control fluid chamber to shift the actuator piston. However, the actuator piston, and thus the valve and cutter, are biased toward a closed position via pressure applied in a pressure chamber and a gas precharge chamber. The combined pressure ensures adequate force for shearing of the well equipment and closure of the valve when hydraulic control pressure is lost. In some applications, additional closing force may be selectively provided to the actuator piston.

The valve assembly comprises a backpressure flapper valve and an activating sleeve slidably disposed within a housing. The activating sleeve initially maintains the flapper valve in an open position while the activating sleeve is maintained in its position by upper and/or lower lock rings on either side of a shoulder of the activating sleeve. A tripping ball is dropped to seat in the activating sleeve. Pressure applied on the ball moves the activating sleeve downward, releasing the backpressure flapper valve, after which the tripping ball exits the bottom of the assembly. The lower lock ring maintains the activating sleeve in its lower position.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a heating cable for extraction pipes of viscous hydrocarbon or paraffinic in conventional wells and tight type wells, with flooded ring in eventual or permanent cases, suitable for use between low and high fluid pressure ranges. The cable, flat type with parallel electric conductors, is also suitable for use in both vertical and directional wells with high operational flexibility in a wide range of variables. Each of the electric conductors (2) is covered by a primary insulation layer (3), and the set of conductors is monolithically coated by a main insulating layer (4) made of fluoropolymer material resistant to the high pressure of the surrounding fluid. Outside of the main insulating layer (4), the structure of the cable is complemented with an external shield (5) defined by a thin metallic material layer.

The receptacle has an open circuit pair of electrical wires. The plunger is configured to attach to a derrick man. The plunger and the receptacle are configured to mate when the plunger is inserted into the receptacle and to remain frictionally mated until pulled apart. The mating results in closing the circuit between the pair of electrical wires.

Abstract: A plan structure and its applications in the upstream oil and gas industry are disclosed. The plan defines logical, sequential and conditional interrelationships between events in the plan, so that a controller can carry out the plan in a flexible and time-independent manner to complete the sequenced events. The definition of the logical, sequential and conditional interdependencies permits flexibility in how the controller uses the time and resources available to it so that the plan directs the controller in a non-prescriptive manner, allowing greater flexibility in plan execution and reducing the necessity for re-planning to occur when changes in the world or environment in which the controller executes the plan are detected.
