Abstract: Disclosed is an intelligent heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (“HVAC”) system. Located within an architectural structure, the HVAC system incorporates an airborne contaminant-flow calculator. When sensors (or a human operator) detect an “incident” (e.g., a contaminant is detected or an unexpected breach occurs in the structure that may be associated with the introduction of a contaminant), the HVAC system recalculates airflows for the structure. If the newly recalculated airflow so warrants, the HVAC system protects the structure's occupants from the airborne contaminant by changing the airflow through the structure (e.g., the HVAC system closes a shutter in the air ducts, turns up a fan, or redirects airflow to a standby filtration system). The HVAC system's calculator uses a closed-form solution for calculating the airflow in order to present its results in a timely fashion.

Abstract: A method for controlling a vapour compression system (1) is disclosed. The vapour compression system (1) comprises an ejector (6) and a liquid separating device (10) arranged in a suction line. A liquid level sensor (18) is arranged in the liquid separating device (10). A liquid level in the liquid separating device (10) is monitored by means of the liquid level sensor (18). In the case that the liquid level in the liquid separating device (10) is above a predefined threshold level, a control parameter of the vapour compression system (1) is adjusted in order to increase a flow rate of refrigerant from the liquid separating device (10) to the secondary inlet (15) of the ejector (6) and/or decrease a flow rate of liquid refrigerant from the evaporator(s) (9) to the liquid separating device (10).

Abstract: A system and method are described that help to alleviate pressure and strain spikes in and around dead tubes or frontiers between stages in a multi-stage condenser coil. Instead of cycling a fan off and on, fans associated with the condenser are kept running at a low speed instead of being turned off. Preventing the fans from turning off completely helps to even out the pressure and strain spikes. The present teachings can be especially beneficial in aluminum-based coils. The present teachings include both a unit controller that carries out the teachings, and a system based on temperature and/or pressure switches connected to a fan controller.
