  • Publication number: 20200103175
Abstract: A vapor-chamber that includes a porous microstructure sheet with varying surface energy across different regions to optimize utilization of a working fluid. Modulating the surface energy of the porous microstructure sheet can minimize the amount of the working fluid that becomes trapped in the condenser region(s) and maximize an aggregate thin-film evaporation area of the working fluid in the evaporator region(s). The condenser region of the vapor-chamber is treated so that the internal surfaces have low surface energy. For example, the treatment may cause the condenser region to become hydrophobic to minimize the amount of fluid that becomes trapped in the condenser. The evaporator region is treated so that the internal surfaces have high surface energy. For example, the treatment may cause the evaporator region to become hydrophilic to induce the formation of large numbers of robust (e.g., dry-out resistant) thin-film evaporation sites.

Abstract: A two-phase thermodynamic system includes a porous microstructure sheet to increase an aggregate thin-film evaporation area of a working fluid. The porous microstructure sheet may be disposed at a liquid-vapor boundary of the working fluid. The porous microstructure sheet has “micro” pores through which the working fluid flows from a liquid flow path on one side of the porous microstructure sheet to a vapor flow path on the other side of the porous microstructure sheet. Individual pores induce the working fluid to form thin-film evaporation regions. The porous microstructure sheet may have a pore density so as to increase an aggregate thin-film evaporation area of the working fluid. In this way, the overall thermal resistance across all liquid-vapor interfaces (menisci) of the working fluid is substantially decreased over conventional vapor chamber.

Abstract: A concealment substrate manufacturing process begins by printing or painting a graphic design as camouflage on substrates like mesh-textured uniforms, military equipment, Mylar thermal blanket sheets, adhesive tapes, etc. The graphic design is uniquely generated from pseudo-random noise in four overlaying color pigments that each begin as a raster of randomly generated noise in a standardized tile size. E.g., gray, green, tan, and brown colors natural for concealment applications are each masked by two-tone image contrast rasters. The four results are mixed together in groups with a monochrome mixing mask to produce a whole tile. Such concealment camouflage tile conjoins seamlessly on-edge within other arrays of identical tiles. One variation adds a distorted-grid mesh-texture overly texture to the concealment camouflage, and even a faint “watermark” related to a commercial trademark.

Abstract: Ballistic laminate for implementing a ballistic structure comprising at least two textile layers placed one on top of the other and joined together. The layers (elements) comprise at least a first textile element, of which the ballistic warp threads, having a count higher than 40 dtex, intersect non-ballistic weft threads, having a count less than 40 dtex, and at least a second textile element, in which non-ballistic warp threads, having a count less than 40 dtex, intersect ballistic weft threads having a count higher than 40 dtex. These at least two elements are joined together using various technologies to obtain a stable structure in which the energy absorption in the face of projectiles is greater than the energy absorption for conventional warp-weft fabrics for the same weight per square meter.

Abstract: An apparatus for processing incendiary capsules for the purpose of prescribed burning. The apparatus includes a reciprocating injector tube driven by a crankshaft and a reciprocating mechanical pump driven by a cam. In order to synchronize these reciprocating motions the crankshaft and cam are joined together as a single part. The incendiary spheres exit a hopper and line up in series in a tube which deposits them one by one into a nest. Each individual sphere is punctured in the nest by a needle then injected with reactant. Each sphere is then withdrawn from the nest and dropped through a discharge opening before the next incendiary in line is processed in the same manner.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are presented for enhancing the acquisition speed or performance of Fourier domain optical coherence tomography. In preferred embodiments a plurality of wavelength combs containing interleaved selections of wavelengths from a multi-wavelength optical source are generated and projected onto a sample. In certain embodiments the wavelength combs are projected simultaneously onto a plurality of regions of the sample, while in other embodiments the wavelength combs are projected sequentially onto the sample. Light in the wavelength combs reflected or scattered from the sample is detected in a single frame of a sensor array, and the detected light processed to obtain a tomographic profile of the sample. In preferred embodiments the wavelength comb generator comprises a wavelength interleaver in the form of a retro-reflective prism array for imparting different displacements to different selections of wavelengths from the optical source.
