Abstract: A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly having an actuation sled assembly that includes an actuation sled and a knife movably supported on the actuation sled. The tool assembly includes structure for moving the knife in relation to the actuation sled between extended and retracted positions in response to movement of the actuation sled through a staple cartridge of the tool assembly. Movement of the knife moves a cutting edge of the knife in relation to the actuation sled within a tissue gap defined by the tool assembly to impart a degree of vertical motion to the cutting edge of the knife. This enables the tool assembly to leverage micro-serrations on the cutting edge of the knife to enhance cutting efficiency of the knife.

Abstract: A new bone lengthening method using a force generated by own energy of a patient to activate a system based on an intramedullary telescopic nail 1, inserted into a broken bone. An outer driving module 30 connected by a cord 29, spanning either knee or elbow or femur-hip joint, where one end of the cord 29 connected to an inner driving module of the telescopic nail inserted into a broken bone and another end of said cord connected to the outer driving module attached to the second bone. The said system converts a tensile force into an axial displacement of a distal bone segment of the broken bone. It is important to attach the outer driver 30 to an appropriate spot of skeleton in consideration that the cord starts pulling anchor 31 by active or passive leg movements only after passing 80% of natural range of motion.

Abstract: The invention relates to a biodegradable, magnesium-containing bone screw for implanting into a patient body for use in medical applications, such as, orthopedic, craniofacial and cardiovascular surgery. The bone screw has a head, shaft and tip. The thickness of the head is greater than the thickness of conventional bone screws. The shaft includes both a non-threaded and a threaded portion. The tip is non-threaded and pointed, such as, conical in shape. The composition of the bone screws provide for improved biodegradability and biocompatibility, and the features of the structure of the bone screws facilitate guidance and placement during implantation as well as reduce the potential for mechanical failures.

The handpiece is connected to a gripping portion, which extends to the distal end. A channel extends through the gripping portion and is connected to a gripping mechanism. A drive mechanism within the handpiece is connected to the channel. The drive mechanism is configured to rotate the channel when actuated by a first actuator positioned on the handpiece (which can be on the distal end of the handpiece). A second actuator is connected to the gripping portion and the gripping mechanism. The second actuator is movable between a relaxed position and a compressed position. The user can operate both first and second actuators with the same handpiece grip. The gripping portion and second actuator are rotatable relative to the housing and first actuator.

Abstract: In one aspect, the present invention provides a method of cooling to produce selective disruption of visceral fat tissue in a non-infant human subject comprising infusing a cooled fluid into the abdominal or peritoneal cavity, or into other parts of the body containing visceral fat, to cool the proximal tissue sufficiently to selectively disrupt lipid-rich cells therein, for example, to promote subsequent damage and absorption of lipid-rich cells by the body without producing unwanted effects in non-lipid-rich cells; e.g., without injury to internal organ tissues that could otherwise produce life-threating risks. The cooled fluid can be infused using a catheter arrangement. The cooled fluid can be retained within the abdominal category for a particular duration, and then drained using the catheter arrangement. In certain embodiments, the cooled fluid can be simultaneously introduced into the abdominal cavity and drained therefrom.
