Abstract: Migration of human peripheral leukocytes in response to chemotactic factors during pregnancy. The methods include determining the likelihood of a pregnant subject undergoing delivery within about 7 days by obtaining peripheral leukocytes from the pregnant subject and determining a chemotactic activity of the leukocytes, wherein an increased likelihood of delivery within about 7 days is indicated when the chemotactic activity is at a level characteristic of a full term pregnancy. Chemotactic activity is assessed by measuring migration of peripheral leukocytes towards a chemoattractant which is a factor present in a sample comprising human fetal membrane obtained from a full term pregnant subject. Other biomarkers or F-actin polarization of peripheral leukocytes are also indicative of the likelihood of a pregnant subject undergoing delivery. Further methods disclosed include minimizing complications of preterm delivery by administration of an IL-1 antagonist when there is a likelihood of preterm delivery.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an acceleration sensor. The acceleration sensor includes: a substrate; a first mass portion supported by the substrate so as to be movable along a thickness direction of the substrate; and a beam portion supporting the first mass portion on the substrate. The beam portion includes: a second mass portion having a mass less than a mass of the first mass portion; a first spring portion connecting the first mass portion with the second mass portion; and a second spring portion having a spring constant smaller than a spring constant of the first spring portion and connecting the second mass portion with the substrate. A movable electrode of a sensor element is disposed on the second mass portion and configured to detect an acceleration along the thickness direction of the substrate. A fixed electrode of the sensor element is disposed on the substrate.

Abstract: A dual axis accelerometer with a single proof mass measures in-plane acceleration (e.g., either along an x-axis or a y-axis), out-of-plane acceleration (e.g., normal to an x-y plane), and tilt of a fixed portion of a MEMS layer (e.g., normal to the x-y plane). In response to a tilt measurement, the dual-axis accelerometer compensates any offset (e.g., variability) of the out-of-plane accelerometer in order to maintain offset stability. In some embodiments, multiple dual axis accelerometers, perpendicularly configured, may be implemented via processing circuitry to offer three axis sensitivity capability.

Abstract: A method for processing sensor signals of a sensor unit for a vehicle. The sensor unit has at least two acceleration sensors of the same type. The method includes reading in a first sensor signal from a first acceleration sensor of the sensor unit and at least one other sensor signal from at least one other acceleration sensor of the sensor unit. Each sensor signal represents acceleration data acquired by the corresponding acceleration sensor. A fusion of the sensor signals of the acceleration sensors is performed using a processing specification to generate a processed sensor signal. The processing specification takes into account predefined interference acceleration parameters to which the acceleration sensors are subject when they are installed in the vehicle.
