Abstract: In the stranding machine 22, a rotating force about a wire material drawing direction (X-direction) is applied to a plurality of wire materials 18A to 18C drawn from bobbins 14A to 14C by rotation of a rotating body 30 arranged on a position apart from the bobbins 14A to 14C in the wire material drawing direction (X-direction), so that a stranded wire is formed. Therefore, the plurality of wire materials 18A to 18C does not rotate in the bobbins 14A to 14C at a stranded point 26 of the plurality of wire materials 18A to 18C. As a result, when the plurality of wire materials 18A to 18C is coated with unvulcanized rubber 88 in the rubber coating section 28, the plurality of wire materials 18A to 18C does not cross the inside of the unvulcanized rubber. For this reason, the unvulcanized rubber 88 sufficiently fills spaces between the plurality of wire materials 88, and sufficiently adheres to the surface of each of the wire materials 18A to 18C.

Abstract: A cleaning brush and method for removing a coating solution from the inner end of a flexible, tubular substrate to be fitted over a mandrel or drum. After a tubular substrate is dipped endwise in a coating solution, some solution coats the inner face of the substrate at one end. By using moderate deformation of the substrate, changes to the profile of the cleaning brush, or both, the cleaning brush is fitted inside the end of the tubular substrate without damaging the substrate. The cleaning brush engages and cleans the substrate's inner surface. The substrate is then free from any coating so as to readily fit on the mandrel or drum.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling coating weight on a steel strip in a continuous hot dip galvanizing process, in which the coating weight is controlled through air wiping after the steel strip passes through a molten zinc coating bath. More particularly, the apparatus keeps the steel strip equidistant from each air knife, uniformly distributes a spray pressure of the air knives in a widthwise direction of the steel strip, and minimizes variation in coating weights on both surfaces of the steel strip. Furthermore, when two steel strips that are different in thickness are continuously hot dip galvanized, the apparatus predicts the movement of the passing line of the steel strips and accurately controls the positions of the air knives. As a result, product deficiencies such as insufficient coating can be reduced and zinc loss due to excess coating can be minimized.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved doctor blade and bedplate apparatus wherein there is a recess in the bedplate from some position upstream of the doctor blade to some position downstream of the doctor blade. Abstract: Specimen preparation apparatus (10) for preparing a specimen smear on a microscope slide (28) includes a single drive shaft in the form of a horizontal screw (17). A smearer chuck assembly (15) threadably engages the screw whereby rotation of the screw causes, due to friction, rotation of the chuck assembly. Respective stop shafts (21, 22) limit the rotational movement of the chuck assembly and consequently when the assembly bears on one or the other of the stop shafts, continued rotation of the screw causes movement of the assembly axially along the screw. In this manner axial and limited rotational movement of the assembly in either direction is controlled by rotation of the screw in either direction and a smearer blade (19) mounted in the assembly may be moved between a smearing station (27), a rinsing station (30), a cleaning station (31) and a drying station (32).

Abstract: The present invention is a blood smearing cassette that quickly, efficiently and reliably prepares peripheral blood smears. The cassette holds two glass slides, a spreader slide and a smear slide, at specific angles to each other. The blood smearing cassette allows untrained personnel to make consistent and proper blood smears. The user slips a smear slide into the smear slide receiver, and a spreader slide into the spreader slide receiver. A small amount of blood is placed on the smear slide, which is then pulled up to the spreader slide until the drop of blood is in contact with the spreader slide. The blood is allowed to spread across the bottom of the spreader slide. The smear slide is then pulled back out of the cassette, leaving a thin film of blood on the smear slide. The length and thickness of the film are controlled by varying the speed at which the smear slide is pulled and varying angles between the two slides.

Abstract: An automatic device prepares blood films or smears on microscope slides. The device has essentially one moving part, namely a carriage which holds the slide, and which is movable back and forth along a frame. The slide is dispensed from a magazine, onto the carriage, and the carriage moves to a position where a drop of blood is conveniently placed onto the slide. The carriage then moves to a position permitting contact between the blood and a spreading blade mounted on a flexible member. The carriage is moved in a forward direction, causing the blade to move relative to the slide, creating the blood smear. The slide is then lifted from the carriage and moved onto a storage platform. Meanwhile, the blade is cleaned as it passes over a cleaning pad on the carriage. Movement of the carriage in both directions insures that both sides and the end of the blade are cleaned.
