  • Patent number: 5329964
Abstract: The present invention is a criss-cross flow hopper which provides even fluid distribution. The flow hopper includes the first and second hopper half each having a planar surface and a cavity which cooperate to form an inner chamber and an exit slot. A first and second insert are securable to each hopper half in the cavity. These non-contacting inserts form within the chamber first and second half flow slots which direct fluid away from the exit slot but then the fluid combines in a damping chamber bounded by the inserts. The fluid is then directed to the exit slot to the substrate to be coated.

Each of the lands has a surface parallel to the center axis of the roll when viewed in the direction of the center axis. The respective widths of the lands, viewed in the center axis direction, maximally equal the maximum width of the cross section of the circumferential grooves.

  • Patent number: 5173119
Abstract: A coating apparatus is known in which a coating liquid is continuously delivered from the front-end slit of a die nozzle for application onto a base film which constantly runs without being supported from the back. The improvement is made in which the die nozzle has at the film loading side a front lip and at the film unloading side a rear lip provided at least with a convex surface, both of which being arranged in step relationship so that the slit side end of the front lip is set back from the path of the base film to locate lower than that of the rear lip. Thereby, a higher shear force will be exerted on the magnetic coating liquid temporarily trapped in a space defined by the running base film and the slit side end of the rear lip, thus allowing a smooth surfaced coating to be developed of a highly agglomerative coating material.

Abstract: An application device for applying a liquid, such as a photographic photosensitive liquid, to the surface of a flexible carrier that is continuously moving on path rollers, while an outlet portion of a slot of an extrusion-type application head is pushed toward the surface of the flexible carrier. The application head has an outlet portion including two end portions having an intermediate portion therebetween, with the top surface of the intermediate portion horizontally lying below top surfaces of the end portions. As the carrier passes over the outlet portion, a gap between the side edge portions of the carrier and the surfaces of the end portions is less than the width of the gap between the central portion of the carrier and the surface of the intermediate portion.

Abstract: A system and method for dispensing a viscous adhesive onto a glass member to be attached to a vehicle body is disclosed. A reciprocating pump supplies adhesive to a dispensing point, with a pulse dampener member disposed between the pump and the dispensing point. A rolling diaphragm defines two chambers within the pulse dampener member, with the adhesive being communicated into a first variable volume chamber. A pressurized gas force is maintained on the opposite side of the diaphragm from the first variable volume chamber. The pulse dampener member includes a T-connection, with the pump supplying fluid into a first leg, the second leg being connected to the variable volume chamber and the third leg connected to the dispensing point. As fluid enters the first leg, the amount of fluid demanded at the dispensing point moves from the first leg directly into the third leg. Any excess fluid supplied into the first leg moves upwardly into the variable volume chamber through the second leg.

The solder coating apparatus comprises a solder tank accommodating a heater, a discharge tank having an open top and a solder inlet opening at a lower part thereof, a square pillar having a top of substantially the same or slightly greater size than a semiconductor element and arranged inside the discharge tank and projecting beyond the open top thereof, and a solder pressure feed screw near the inlet opening of the discharge tank. A film carrying semiconductor elements is intermittently stopped when one of the semiconductor elements arrives above the square pillar. Molten solder is discharged from gaps between the inner walls of the discharge tank and the square pillar onto the outer leads of the semiconductor element positioned over the pillar.

An enclosure is disposed under and open to the bead. Vacuum is applied to the enclosure by a turbine driven by an AC induction motor. Servo means are provided for regulating the speed of the motor and thereby the pressure differential across the bead. The AC motor and the servo means allow the desired pressure to be maintained without surges and allows the differential pressure to be rapidly changed, as for the passage of a splice in the web through the bead.

Abstract: For filling the edge groove (26) of an insulating glass pane (1) of an arbitrarily designed outer contour with sealing compound, stored geometrical data of the outer contour of the insulating glass pane (1) are utilized for controlling the relative motion between the insulating glass pane (1) and the filling nozzle (4). The relative velocity of the relative motion between the insulating glass pane (1) and the filling nozzle (4) is varied in such a way that the desired extent of filling of the edge groove (26) remains constant even in case of a change in the depth of the edge groove and/or in case of fluctuating feeding rate of a sealing compound. Furthermore, the relative speed between the filling nozzle (4) and the insulating glass pane (1) is selected to be higher in the zone of linear or less strongly curved sections (6) of the edge groove (26) than in the zone of more strongly curved sections (5).
