As the coating layer on the web contacts the doctor blade, excess coating removed from the web by the blade bounces back off of the blade, flows across the shear plate surface and is deflected by the ramp against the web to rewet the excess coating layer on the web before it reaches the blade.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for applying molten wax to one face of a wafer is disclosed. A container having an upwardly facing opening contains the molten wax. The wafer is held substantially horizontally above the opening of the container, with one face of the wafer facing downwardly toward the opening of the container. At least one of the container and the wafer is moved toward the other to bring the opening of the container and underside of the wafer into contact with each other to thereby apply a predetermined amount of molten wax within the container to the underside of the wafer. Preferably, the container is filled with the molten wax such that the molten wax stands up, under surface tension, above a peripheral edge of the opening of the container. Preferably, the wafer is spinned around its central axis in a high speed so that the molten wax applied at the central portion thereof is spread on the entire surface of the wafer and that the extra wax is scattered out of the wafer.

Abstract: A piston driving device for dispensing a predetermined small amount of paste-like material from a nozzle in response to an electrical signal without any time-delay is enabled by the slow rotation of a ball-screw shaft, the rotation being reduced by a differential gear system. A female ball-nut fitted onto the ball-screw shaft causes a piston plunger to advance at very low speed such that dispensing of the predetermined volume of paste-like fluid is possible. Vertical motion of a nozzle is compensated by vertical motion of a piston driving device such that the relative position of a piston against a nozzle is unchanged.

Abstract: Apparatus for intermittently applying a fluid coating substance such as a workpiece or a substrate on an object such as a workpiece or a substrate. The apparatus is provided with a storage chamber to which is provided the fluid coating substance under pressure. The storage chamber has an inner rigid side provided with an orifice nozzle through which the coating substance is discharged for application. The coating substance is discharged intermittently in discrete quantitites, of minute volume if desired. The discharge is effected under control of a rotatably driven discoidal rotor in the form of a ceramic discoid disposed interiorly of the storage chamber. The discoidal rotor is provided with a through opening in the form of a cross sectional passageway extending between opposite sides thereof. The discoidal rotor has one of its sides bearing on the side of the storage chamber and as it rotates the passageway therein is intermittently aligned with and in communication with the orifice of the storage chamber.
