  • Patent number: 4960068
Abstract: An open-ended cylindrical housing (50) with a slot (52) extending along one side contains within its bore first and second roller guides (54, 56) each having a longitudinal extending V-shaped groove (58) in an outer surface. The housing and included roller guides are located as a unit within an adhesive recovery tube (62) having a slot (66) along one side. In use, a fiber (18) with adhesive on its surface moves along the V-shaped grooves. Adjustment of the V-shaped groove aperture existing at the facing roller guide ends is accomplished by relative roller guide rotation.

  • Patent number: 4958589
Abstract: A continuous melt-plating apparatus has a guide roller provided above the sink roller. The guide roller is capable of curving into a configuration arbitrarily varied in the widthwise direction of the strip, in such a manner that the waving and curving of the steel strip, which is very variable depending on the thickness, the width and the material of the steel strip, changes of the sink roller, the plating speed, and the thickness of the plating, can be coped with precisely in accordance therewith. A detector for detecting the degree of flatness of the steel strip in the widthwise direction is provided downstream of the gas wiping nozzle, and the curving of the guide roller is controlled through a feedback control for adjusting the amount of variation of the guide roller's pushing, so that the flatness can be precisely maintained right at the portion corresponding to the gas wiping nozzles.

Abstract: A saturator of the type which includes a chamber situated between a chamber defining element and a mandrel, in which a web is moved through the chamber to impregnate the web with a saturant contained in the chamber, includes a chamber defining element which defines an array of grooves. The grooves are separated by raised surfaces. The raised surfaces cooperate with the mandrel to pressurize the saturant in a high pressure zone which causes a relatively large amount of saturant to enter the web. The grooves define respective low pressure zones, which cause a reduced amount of saturant or no saturant to impregnate the web. A desired pattern of impregnation of the web can be obtained by properly positioning the grooves with respect to the raised surfaces on the chamber defining element.

  • Patent number: 4722856
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for continuously forming and depositing a layer of monomolecular amphiphilic molecules on a substrate. The present invention includes an apparatus and method for transferring and compressing an uncompressed molecular layer from one liquid surface region to another adjacent liquid surface region by using non-moving or static mechanical components which do not come into direct contact with the monomolecular layer. The present invention is based on the fact that by continuously flowing liquid from one region to an adjacent region by using non-moving or static mechanical components that do not touch the monomolecular layer, a monomolecular layer having surprisingly little damage can be transported to the adjacent region and simultaneouly compressed by the flowing liquid surface. The monomolecular layer can then be coated onto a substrate.

Abstract: A wallpaper applicator for single-handedly applying on a flat surface and in a single continuous stroke the sticky face of a wallpaper. The applicator is characterized in that it eliminates distortion of the wallpaper and formation of air bubbles in between the wallpaper and the applied surface. The device comprises an elongated cross-sectionally polygonal casing in which lies a web of wallpaper; the latter is biased against two of the flat side walls of the casing by a weight rod engaged in the cylindrical hollow defined by the wallpaper web. One casing flat side wall defines a longitudinal slot through which escapes the leading edge portion of the wallpaper.

Abstract: The invention concerns a coating device for coating a travelling web travelling past the coating device. A chamber for coating composition has an exit mouth, and pressurized coating composition exits the mouth into an application space between the mouth and the web. A doctor blade for the web is downstream of the application space. A damming strip with an edge spaced from the web is upstream of the application space. The damming strip defines an exit slot for excess coating composition in the application space. A flow body in the application space includes feed channels leading from the mouth toward the web and includes passage openings extending generally transversely of the feed channels for conducting the rotary flow of coating composition through the application space. The flow body has obstacles above the exit ends of the feed channels which make the flow therearound more uniform.
