Abstract: In order to clean the support region at the bottom end of a doctor element which is clamped to a support and is thereby held to the surface of spreadable material to be doctored, the leaf spring doctor element is removable from a stop on the support against which the leaf spring is clamped in operation by a plate pusher. The support is shaped to have a groove extending along the width of the stop and the support for the doctor element. A sidewall of the groove is defined in a ledge that is movable along the support and along the groove. The sidewall supports oscillation pulse transmitters. A liquid pulse transmitting medium in the groove transmits the oscillations across the grove to the area of the leaf spring support to be cleaned. The oscillation pulse transmitters may be a series of transmitters extending along the sidewall along the groove or may comprise a long bar shaped oscillator which is oscillated at its ends.

Abstract: A coating apparatus for applying plastic coatings onto a planar substrate includes an elongate coating head defining therein an elongate distribution channel having a length corresponding to a width of a substrate to be coated, the coating head also defining a coating gap for discharging a coating material from the distribution channel. First and second supply channels are respectively connected between respective pumps and different portions of the distribution channel for respectively supplying first and second coating materials to the distribution channel. A mixing zone is formed in the distribution channel by a partition or a hollow conical body, each of which forms a mixing gradient extending along the length of the mixing zone. Ideally, the pumps for the first and second coating materials provide these materials with the same pressure within the mixing zone.

Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for coating a solution on a tape-shaped flexible support which is moved so as to run along a top surface of coating head. The coating head is slitted so as to form a front edge surface, a back edge surface in order in the moving direction of the flexible support, and a slit therebetween so that the solution is extruded through the slit of the coating head to the flexible support. In this configuration, at least a part of the back edge surface projects beyond the tangent line at the downstream end of the front edge surface.

  • Patent number: 5031568
Abstract: There is provided cross-head type die apparatus for applying a substantially concentric insulating layer to a conductor passing therethrough. Die assembly elements of novel structural combination are disposed within the substantially cylindrical cross-head such that they are in axial alignment with each other and the cross-head. In particular, a die insert or die tip has a front portion which tapers inwardly to substantially a point and includes an outlet orifice to guide the conductor along a passline towards a die orifice. A flow guide has a respective internal surface which tapers rearwardly to form a die orifice on its front surface. Cooperatively tapered surfaces securely fit the flow guide and the die tip within the cross-head axial bore such that a space is formed between the internally tapered surface of the flow guide and the front portion of the die tip. The die orifice and the outlet orifice of the die tip are axially aligned due to their respectively tapered fits within the cross-head.
