Abstract: A minimal amount of waste in liquid resist material is achieved by dispensing through small openings at close proximity to the substrate. An airtight substrate chamber as well as airtight sealing of dispensing assembly and airtight sealing of the space that does not have to be opened for substrate loading and unloading, are used to facilitate a uniform and planarized coating after a high-speed spin off of excess resist.

Abstract: A continuous drier for board-shaped piece material, especially for coated in-layers or printed circuit boards, is described which comprises a drying chamber, in which the board-shaped piece material to be dried is exposed to a guided air stream while being transported in a transport plane along a transport path from an entrance to an exit of the drying chamber by transport means acting preferably at its longitudinal edges. The drying chamber is equipped with an inlet for incoming air and with an outlet for outgoing air. Arranged above and below the transport path of the board-shaped piece material are infrared radiators the radiation of which acts directly on the coated piece material and which, in addition, form a heat source for the guided air stream. The air stream in the drying chamber is guided counter to the transport direction of the board-shaped piece material and substantially parallel to the transport plane. A coating installation comprising such a continuous drier is also described. (FIG.

  • Patent number: 5547508
Abstract: The present invention is the formation of solid polymer layers under vacuum. More specifically, the present invention is the use of "standard" polymer layer-making equipment that is generally used in an atmospheric environment in a vacuum, and degassing the monomer material prior to injection into the vacuum. Additional layers of polymer or metal or oxide may be vacuum deposited onto solid polymer layers. Formation of polymer layers under a vacuum improves material and surface characteristics, and subsequent quality of bonding to additional layers. Further advantages include use of less to no photoinitiator for curing, faster curing, fewer impurities in the polymer electrolyte, as well as improvement in material properties including no trapped gas resulting in greater density, and reduced monomer wetting angle that facilitates spreading of the monomer and provides a smoother finished surface.

Abstract: The rotary drum has a cylindrical portion (tubular body portion) formed therein with vent holes. An annular duct is disposed at the outside of the cylindrical portion of the rotary drum in a manner to surround the cylindrical portion. This annular duct is provided with a gas supply duct and an exhaust duct. In the annular duct, partition walls define a vent path, in which the drying gas which has been supplied from the gas supply duct flows through an accumulated layer, and thereafter, flows to the exhaust duct. The direction of flow of the drying gas in the vent path is changed over by gas supply-exhaust changeover dampers.

Abstract: Apparatus for forming shallow p-n junctions in silicon substrates to produce photovoltaic cells, which apparatus provides three processing chambers. An ultrasonic spray is mounted in the first processing chamber to coat a front surface of the substrate with a liquid dopant-containing material. The second processing chamber dries the coated substrates leaving a dopant-containing residue on the front surface. The third processing chamber fires the substrates in an oxygen-containing environment to diffuse the dopant into the substrate and provide a p-n junction. The apparatus conducts humidified air to each chamber to control polymerization of the dopant source and to prevent non-humidified air from entering the chambers.

  • Patent number: 5514214
Abstract: Hard substrates such as ophthalmic lenses or molds are coated with a UV curable monomer which is polymerized to construct a scratch resistant coating on a surface of the lens. The present invention is directed to an apparatus for and method of applying the UV curable monomer to the surface of the ophthalmic lens or mold. Polymerization of the monomer occurs by radiation of UV light while the lens is encased in a curing chamber. The spin coater of the present invention has the following advantages: Excess monomer is collected in a dish away from UV exposure and is readily disposed of. The substrate is revolved at a high rate of speed during the application of the coating to achieve a uniform coating of monomer. Only the holder and substrate are moved to the curing chamber minimizing the items exposed to UV light. The UV light is electrodeless, it has a standby mode and operates cyclically during use so as to prolong its life and to allow a greater degree of control over extent of polymerization.

Abstract: A painting structure for use as, by way of example, a paint spray booth or paint baking or drying oven, utilizes a trapezoidal cross-section, instead of the conventional rectangular/square or rectangular-gabled cross-section. The painting structure of the present invention provides inherent rigidity without the need for special framing, and provides more uniform air flow than a gabled roof structure, as air swirls in air pockets beneath the gables are eliminated. Due to the simplified construction, the trapezoidal cross-sectional booth of the present invention is less expensive to make and install and more easily erected.

The doctor rolls have end flanges overlapping the ends of the associated applicator rolls. A body of the liquid lubricant is maintained in the reservoir defined by each pair of applicator and doctor rolls, and following application of a coating of the lubricant to their surfaces, the blanks are conveyed between opposed heaters which raise the temperature of the coating to drive moisture therefrom. The blanks are conveyed between cooling units which lower the temperature of the lubricant coated surfaces, and thereafter through a transition zone to bring the temperature to the ambient range to prevent condensation thereon as the blanks are discharged to the atmosphere.
