  • Patent number: 5983871
Abstract: The invention relates to an ignition system for an internal combustion engine (ICE) that provides fast transfer from a laminar combustion in an ignition kernel to a self-sustaining turbulent flame propagation, thus leading to a reduction in the total time of combustion. The effect is achieved by transiently attacking the ignition kernel with a high-frequency (HF) electromagnetic radiation pulse, which is quasiperiodically modulated with 10-1000 kHz frequency in the initial period of combustion (50-500 .mu.s) following the ignition. Radiation is absorbed by electrons existing only inside the ignition kernel during the initial stage of its development. Due to thermal inertia, the medium perceives the oscillations on the frequency of modulation, whereby the surface of the kernel is developed and is split into separate fractions. This causes transfer from laminar to turbulent bulk combustion.

The device improves fuel efficiency, increases power production, reduces carbon build-up on engine parts and reduces pollutants in exhaust emissions.

  • Patent number: 5080080
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus to improve the fuel economy of internal combustion engines by inducing a magnetic field in the fuel as it flows into a carburetor or fuel injector system. A rubber fuel line, without any metal reinforcements, is used to convey the fuel from an inlet fitting made of steel or aluminum to an outlet fitting, again, made of steel or aluminum. A magnet is placed so that its south pole is in contact with the rubber fuel line. A rubber wrap is placed about the magnet and about the portion of the fuel line in contact with the magnet to further focus the magnetic field on the flowing fuel. The magnetic field induced in the flowing fuel ionizes the hydrocarbon fuel to increase combustion efficiency, thus, increasing fuel economy.

  • Patent number: 5076246
Abstract: A device for simultaneously conditioning liquid fuel and liquid coolant in an engine or the like. The device comprises a cylindrical body. A set of annular magnets are positioned concentrically and axially in the body. The magnets are separated by ferromagnetic annular internal pole shoes into pairs. Every pair of the magnets are mounted between two adjacent internal pole shoes and placed with monomial poles facing each other. External pole shoes are situated concentrically around the corresponding internal pole shoes. A fuel conditioning circuit in the form of non-magnetic conduit is mounted between the internal and external pole shoes. A coolant conditioning circuit is formed between the inner surface of the body having the external pole shoes thereon and the assembly of the magnets and the internal pole shoes. The fuel conduit is a spiral pipe with odd number of coils or a concentrically located pipe filled with a bed of ferromagnetic fillings on which the magnetic field of the magnets acts.

Abstract: An apparatus for producing a stable streamer corona discharge, used for example for cleaning exhaust gases of automobiles, has a first electrode including an electrical conductor which is made of a stainless steel bar having discrete protrusions or continuously formed protrusions produced on its surface by threading, the cross section of the protrusions being triangular or trapezoidal. A second electrode includes an electrical conductor disposed opposite to the first electrode with a space therebetween, and an insulating layer formed of suitable materials having high electrical resistances such as asbestos, ceramics, organic glasses or the like covers the second electrode over at least the whole surface opposing to the first electrode. A high voltage direct current supply or a high voltage alternating supply is connected to the first electrode and the second electrode.

  • Patent number: 5044347
Abstract: A device is disclosed for promoting the dispersion of fuel on atomization in order to permit more complete combustion. The device is installed in the fuel line proximate the fuel atomizer and comprises a core surrounded by a non-conductive sheath so as to provide channels through the device. The core is an alloy comprising over 50% copper, about 25% zinc, about 10% manganese, and over 5% nickel. The core is ridged to generate turbulence in the fuel in order to improve the exposure of the fuel to the core. Further, the configuration of the core may be chosen to provide a large surface area, again to improve the exposure of the fuel to the core.

  • Patent number: 5010869
Abstract: This invention relates to a combustion air ionization method and apparatus for internal combustion engines. In the preferred method, combustion air is moved past an electrical charge source. A voltage source providing a series of voltage pulses of a single polarity ranging from a non-zero base voltage to a predetermined peak voltage is connected in a circuit path to the electrical charge source. The preferred apparatus practicing this method consists essentially of an electrical charge source disposed within a container upstream of the engine's combustion air intake. The voltage source applies its voltage pulses to the charge source, thereby ionizing the air moving past the charge source.
