  • Patent number: 4161181
Abstract: An ashtray open at the top for supporting burning cigarettes and collecting cigarette butts is mounted over a small battery driven DC motor which drives a closed face centrifical fan which, when activated, draws air and smoke through a replaceable cartridge filter element mounted between the fan and ashtray, expelling cleansed air at the bottom.

  • Patent number: 4154251
Abstract: The device draws the smoke up from lit cigarettes and the like and disperses it thoroughly in large amounts of air to make it nearly invisible and less offensive. A battery operated motor drives an impeller which draws smoke through a ram tube. The smoke then proceeds through an annular flow channel and passes through a perforated dispersal ring before being ejected through a dispersal rim slot near the top of the device. The flow path is arranged to minimize the drain on the batteries and maximize dispersal; the motor, its batteries and electrical circuit connectors (including a novel electrical switch) are arranged such that smoke and ashes are kept away from their compartment. The entire device disassembles easily for cleaning. In one embodiment, the smoke passes through an ash screen having a low resistance to air flow.

  • Patent number: 4148618
Abstract: An ashtray having a top upon which lit cigarettes or the like may be rested and having a plurality of holes therethrough through which smoke from the cigarette may be drawn downwardly through odor-treating material. The holes in the top are such as to permit the smoke-entraining downward flow of air therethrough while yet substantially preventing the passage of cigarette ashes.

  • Patent number: 4029109
Abstract: A fluid-cooled smoking device includes a plurality of concentrically disposed tubular members which, depending upon the predetermined length of some of such members, and/or the provision of apertures therewithin, together define an elongated serpentine fluid flow path. An ash receptacle is defined within the upstream portion of the fluid flow path while the downstream portion of the flow path includes a liquid chamber, and in this manner, the smoke is air-cooled within the upstream portion of the flow path, ash deposits are segregated from the fluid flow prior to the same being further cooled within the water chamber, and consequently, the water chamber does not readily become contaminated.

  • Patent number: 4014353
Abstract: A fluid-cooled smoking device includes a housing for containing a liquid coolant, and a tubular member projecting into the housing for supporting a smoking bowl-ash receptacle assembly disposed upon and with the tubular member. Concentric tubular members within the ash receptacle portion of the assembly define a serpentine flow path whereby the smoke and fumes to be inhaled are initially air-cooled, and subsequently, the air-cooled smoke and fumes pass into the liquid coolant so as to be liquid-cooled prior to reaching the smoker. The ash receptacle accumulates burnt tobaccos and ash deposits and prevents the same from entering the liquid coolant whereby the latter remains clean for extended periods of time.
