  • Patent number: 5855977
Abstract: A multi-layer article comprises a substantially non-fluorinated layer, and a fluorinated layer of fluoropolymer comprising interpolymerized monomeric units derived from one or more of hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene monomers, one or more non-fluorinated olefinically unsaturated monomer, and substantially no vinylidene fluoride monomer. The multi-layer article further comprises an aliphatic di-, or polyamine which provides increased adhesion between the layers as compared to a multi-layer article not containing the aliphatic di-, or polyamine. The multi-layer article can be prepared by mixing the aliphatic di-, or polyamine into the substantially non-fluorinated polymeric material, or by applying the aliphatic di-, or polyamine to a surface of one or more of the substantially non-fluorinated polymeric material or the fluoropolymer, and thereafter preparing a multi-layer article.

  • Patent number: 5813467
Abstract: An end of a composite cylinder is formed about an end connection assembly having two longitudinally arranged pieces having a contour which prevents the withdrawal of the end connection assembly from the cylinder. The two pieces of the end connection assembly are relatively forced apart and a snap ring having a certain rest diameter is reduced in diameter and inserted into the end connection assembly to a position between the pieces. The snap ring then assumes its rest diameter positioned between the pieces, forcing them to maintain intimate contact with the inner surface of the cylinder, thus removing any residual gap from the assembly process and/or preloading the interface between the end of the composite cylinder and the end assembly prior to application of an axial load.

  • Patent number: 5803131
Abstract: A fuel additive pipe 11 comprised of a pipe main body 12 and a plating layer 13 formed on the external or interior wall surface of the pipe main body 12 and composed of an electroless plating layer 131 and an electroplating layer 132. The pipe main body 12 contains a high-density polyethylene as a base material and an additive 21 such as mica. While the pipe main body 12 is subjected to an etching treatment, the additive 21 does not dissolve in the etching solution, so that the additive 21 protrudes from the surface of the pipe main body 12. The thus protruding additive 21 serves as the starting point for forming the electroless plating layer 131 and promotes growth of the layer 131. This electroless plating layer 131 is firmly bonded with the pipe main body 12 by chemical absorption to the additive 21 from which inactive sites are removed by the etching treatment as well as by the physical absorption to the fine roughness formed by the etching treatment on the surface of the pipe main body 12.

Abstract: Multilayer fluid conduits are formed by adhering to a tubular outer surface of a metal pipe, a thermoplastic outer layer. The outer layer permits ends of the multilayer conduit to be joined together in leak-proof fluid conduit systems simply by adhering the conduit ends with compatible thermoplastic fittings. For fire protection systems, the preferred metal is steel, the preferred thermoplastic is CPVC and the preferred adhesive is heat activated. The adhesive coated metal pipe is preheated and the CPVC is extruded onto the outer surface of the heated metal pipe. Through the use of fire resistive CPVC, the multilayer conduit systems of the present invention can be installed in more severe fire threat areas than can existing, all plastic piping, including all CPVC piping systems. The conduit is assembled into systems on site simply by cutting and direct bonding with ordinary, all plastic fittings using appropriate bonding agents such as solvent based adhesives.

Abstract: A multi-layered hose according to the present invention comprises a rubber outer layer and a resin or metal inner layer which is integrally formed at the inner periphery surface of the rubber outer layer. The thickness of the resin inner layer formed at the inner periphery surface of the edge portion is thinner than that of the resin inner layer formed at the inner periphery surface of a main portion of the hose. Therefore, when a mating pipe is inserted into the hose edge portion, the mating pipe is satisfactorily adhered to the inner surface of the hose edge portion, thereby obtaining excellent sealing.

  • Patent number: 5662974
Abstract: An article, for example a pipe, has a first covering such as a polymer layer, and a second covering, such as a repair patch or a repair deposit of melt-on adhesive or a wrap or a sleeve protecting a welded joint between two lengths of such pipe. The second covering may have a functional coating on an underside which is applied on and is at least partially superimposed over the first covering. A cured deposit of thermoset resin is applied at least over the edges of the second covering, for example in the form of a fibrous tape impregnated with a curable resin composition, and bonds to the first and second coverings. The resin deposit provides the second covering with increased stability against displacement laterally of said first covering, for example as a result of soil stress.

Abstract: Polyfluorocarbon/elastomer bonded laminates are disclosed. Flexible, durable chemical-resistant hose for use in industrial applications, and improved construction for such hose including inner tube members characterized by a dual-layer feature employing such laminate, is also disclosed. This feature comprises an adhesive elastomeric composition which bonds a polyfluorocarbon thermoplastic veneer to a substantially non-polar chemical-resistant carbon-based elastomeric or thermoplastic elastomeric outer layer. The adhesive elastomeric composition useful in the present invention comprises unsaturated polymeric dicarboxylic acids, or derivative adducts, of ethylene propylene diene terpolymer.

Abstract: A hose capable of exhibiting increased flexibility and lubricity. The hose is made of soft synthetic resin containing a slidability providing silicone resin material. In particular, the slidability providing silicone resin material contained in a surface layer of the hose or ribs formed on a surface of the hose. In production of the hose, re-dispersion of the resin material and forcing of layers of the hose against each other are carried out. Alternatively, a layer containing the resin material and a layer free of the resin material are co-extruded.

Abstract: A fuel hose comprising an outer rubber layer wherein polysulfide is crosslinked so that polysulfide bonding density is not less than 4.times.10.sup.-5 mol/cm.sup.3 and an epoxy compound having epoxy equivalent at not more than 300 is contained, and an inner polyamide resin layer which is laminated on the inside face of the outer rubber layer and bonded thereon by heat treatment. Since the polyamide resin powder is melted by the heat treatment and the polysulfide bonding decomposes so that the resultant residue after decomposition combines with polyamide molecules, resulting in a direct and strong bonding of the outer rubber layer and the inner polyamide resin layer. Moreover, since the special epoxy compound is mixed therein, it is possible to set up the heat treatment condition at a rather mild one.
