Abstract: A multi-layered pipe of arbitrary length and cross-section is produced by co-extrusion of a lower polyolefin (C2-C4) outer body over the exterior surface of a tubular core of randomly, partially randomly, or blocky chlorinated lower polyolefin, the core having a wall thickness, measured in the radial direction, in the range from about 0.025 mm to 5 mm. The tubular core is coextensive with essentially the entire length of the pipe. The tubular core comprises a major proportion by weight of the randomly chlorinated polyolefin (r-CPO), or, partially randomly chlorinated polyolefin (pr-CPO), or, a blocky chlorinated polyolefin (b-CPO), any of which may be blended with a minor proportion by weight of a blending ingredient. The r-CPO, pr-CPO or b-CPO, or a blend thereof, each has an extrusion temperature in the same range as that for the corresponding non-halogenated polyolefin, namely in the range from about 150° C. to 250° C.

  • Patent number: 6537630
Abstract: The blow-molded hose of a synthetic resin of the present invention is produced by blow-molding a single parison comprising a soft resin and a hard resin. The blow-molded hose comprises a monolayer (or single-layer) segment formed with either a soft resin layer or a hard resin layer and multilayer laminating) segment formed with the soft resin layer and the hard resin layer, wherein, in the multilayer (laminating) segment, the thickness of the resin layer forming the monolayer segment is thinner than that of the other resin layer. Practically, the monolayer segment comprises the soft resin layer and forms the connection end(s) at the end(s) of the hose.

  • Patent number: 6536478
Abstract: A multilayer fluid conduit for use in motor vehicles includes a first layer and a second layer surrounding the first layer. The two layers are essentially composed of thermoplastic materials and are integrally connected to one another. Electrically conductive particles are mixed into the plastic material of the first layer. For increasing a long-term elasticity and flexibility even at higher temperatures of up to 90° C. when coming into contact with a liquid fuel and fuel vapors, the plastic material of the first layer is a functionalized cross-linked polyolefin or a functionalized cross-linked thermoplastic elastomer.

Abstract: An air handling system ductwork component comprising a tubular, foam interior layer integrally formed with a thin, non-metal outer layer. The combination interior and outer layers are characterized as providing requisite strength for use of the ductwork component within an air handling system without inclusion of a metal-based layer. In one preferred embodiment, the interior layer is a closed cell foam, and the outer layer is plastic, with the ductwork component being formed as part of a rotational molding process. The ductwork component can assume a wide variety of forms, such as a duct, pipe, elbow, boot, tee, plenum, reducer, register, wall stack, take-off, etc.

  • Patent number: 6520261
Abstract: The invention is an insulation material comprising a novolac cured polysulfide polymer resin. The material is used as a thermal insulator for subsea gas and oil production equipment, such as pipes and wellhead equipment. In order to decrease the maximum exothermic temperature generated by the resin during curing, hollow glass beads are added to the resin. The amine content of the hardener in a standard resin was adjusted to further decrease the maximum exothermic temperature. A fumed silica thixotropic material was also added to increase the viscosity of the mixture. These modifications allow the material to be cast in thick sections without cracking, leaking, or excessive expansion during curing.
