  • Patent number: 6076562
Abstract: An outer pipe casing (20) and a concrete tube (26) cast inside, form a pre-stressed concrete pipe in its elementary form. Prior to casting, a layer of non-cohesive material (28) is sprayed on the inside of the pipe casing and an annular ring (32) is welded inside adjacent to each end. A resilient seal ring (46) is captivated into the inwardly facing legs (38) of the second channel (36) of each annular ring and a temporary seal (52) separates each annular ring from the material (28). After the concrete of the tube cures, a pressurized solidifying compound (54) is inserted under pressure to a pathway (42) formed into each annular ring and it is also extruded into a region (30) coated by the non-cohesive material. Pressurization of the compound is sufficient to cause the pipe casing to bulge outwardly and compression of the concrete in the tube is achieved. When the compound hardens, the compressive force remains and pre-loads the pipe.

Abstract: A hose and wire casing adapted to withstand biological and chemical attacks. The hose/wire casing is manufactured by placing a barrier wrap of elastomer and ultra-high-molecular-weight-polyethylene around a hose body or conductor bundle. Abstract: Automotive filler tubes require resistance to usual hydrocarbon fuel and mechanical properties to withstand collision forces. Tubes are fabricated from laminated rubbery structure reflecting the cooperative use of selected fluoropolymeric materials laminated with a rubbery copolymer like an epichlorohydrin elastomer to provide a flexible tubular article permitting only negligible escape of confined volatile hydrocarbons. A FKM rubbery polymer forms a relatively thin inner layer in the tube, a THV polymer forms a relatively thin intermediate layer and a relatively thick elastomeric polymer, e.g., ECO, forms a cover layer. In an alternative embodiment, a tube is formed from an inner layer of a THV fluoroplastic polymer and a cover layer of a relatively thick elastomeric polymer. The tubing is made by coextruding the FKM rubbery polymer and the THV fluoroplastic polymer, coating the THV fluoroplastic polymer layer with a binder, crosshead extruding the elastomeric polymer layer and cutting the tubing to lengths.

Abstract: Conduit liners and methods for their construction and use are provided. The liners include a first flexible layer mechanically bonded to at least one glass-containing layer and folded to form a tubular laminate. The laminate can be penetrable by resinous liquid capable of setting the form of substantially continuous matrix within the laminate following the expansion of the laminate within a conduit. In preferred versions of the liner, multiple glass layers are provided on the inner and outer diameter of the construction with a polyester core so as to meet minimum thickness requirements for vibration resistance under American in situ pipe vibration resistance codes.

  • Patent number: 5904182
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a vitreous quartz pipe or container having a connector including a flange formed from at least one strip or rod-shaped piece of transparent quartz glass which is wound circumferentially around either an inner or outer surface of a portion of the pipe or container and secured to the pipe or container to thereby form a closed-ring flange. The portion of the pipe or container having the attached flange may be an open end of the pipe or container or may be a wall portion where a connector for mounting to fixtures or other fittings may be desired. This type of strip or rod-shaped piece of quartz glass can be made via a conventional pulling technique such that a strip or rod having the appropriate uniform cross-sectional shape is obtained. The prepared strips or rod-shaped pieces are then easily cut with a saw device to appropriate lengths.

  • Patent number: 5895695
Abstract: The invention described herein pertains generally to a crosslinked plumbing tube which has at least one overmolded end (e.g. nose cone or nut) attached thereto. In one aspect of this invention, the tube is more rigid than the overmolded component while in another aspect of the invention, the tube is more flexible than the overmolded component. In either embodiment of this invention, the tube provides an all-plastic waterway for a contained liquid or gas to flow through. The degree of flexibility is controlled independently controlling the density of the tube polymer and the overmolding polymer. In one aspect of the invention, the tube and the overmolding polymer are both partially crosslinked to independent first degrees prior to the overmolding process. Subsequent to the overmolding process, the crosslinking is continued to a higher degree for both polymers.

  • Patent number: 5876645
Abstract: A tube which is normally in a collapsed position and which has an inner layer, suitably of felt. The free end of the tube is pulled apart and a pool of resin is located within the tube. Opposed driven rollers then pull the free end of the tube to assist in the dispersion of the resin in the felt. To assist in the resin impregnating the felt a vacuum is applied to urge the felt on either side of the collapsed tube so that the sides are more towards each other in the region of the pool of resin. In order for the vacuum to be able to be applied in the region of the pool of resin the vacuum is applied to the trailing end of the tube and an insert comprising a strip of material that is less prone to collapse than the felt of the tube is located along the inside of the felt.
