Mechanical Cutting Or Shaping Patents (Class 144/359)
  • Patent number: 5716476
Abstract: A structural laminate in which an end-grain balsa core panel is sandwiched between and adhered to facing skins that cover the edges of the panel as well as its opposing faces. To make it possible for facing skins that cannot be sharply bent to conform to edges of the panel, these edges are bevelled to impart a gentle slope thereto. Bevelling is effected by means of a high-pressure die whose angled face has a staircase formation defined by a series of right-angle microsteps. When the die is forced against a right angle edge of the core panel to be bevelled with a pressure exceeding the compressive strength of the balsa, each microstep then impose pressure in a direction parallel to the axes of the cluster of internal balsa cells engaged by the microstep to more or less collapse this cluster to an extent depending on the staircase position of the microstep, thereby densifying the internal structure of the balsa at the edge of the panel without disintegrating this structure.

  • Patent number: 5441787
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for manufacturing a composite wood product from split and disrupted pieces of a raw material such as cedar, willow or bamboo. The composite may be employed as a thick plate of wood, pillar wood, beam wood and the like used for furniture, buildings, and structural objects. The composite is formed by roughly splitting and disrupting a fibrous raw material lengthwise. The roughly split and disrupted material is then finely split and disrupted, and then dried. A single layer is formed by laterally arranging and adhering the finely split and disrupted wood pieces. The single layers are then formed into a pile and heated and pressure tightened.

Abstract: A stump lifting and crushing device for mounting to an end of a bucket arm of a digging machine includes stump lifting hooks and a bit pivotally closable with a counter bit for crushing stumps therebetween. The bit has an elongate narrow cutting surface which cooperates with an aligned counter surface provided by the counter bit. The counter surface extends transversely across the width of the cutting surface of the bit. The closing movement of the bits is limited by the cam-like engagement of a following member of the bit with a stop member of the counter bit.

  • Patent number: 4877070
Abstract: In a method of reinforcing a guitar neck in which the neck of the guitar is preliminarily bent into an arcuate shape, a long straight aperture is formed within the neck over substantially all of its length by a laser beam or a long drill and an adjusting rod is inserted into the long aperture to reinforce the neck after releasing the bend of the neck, the method comprises the steps of providing a spot facing for a nut for the adjusting rod at the top side of the long aperture as well as another spot facing for the head of the adjusting rod at the root side of the long aperture, the neck provided with the long aperture, the neck provided with the long aperture and the spot facings is submerged within the resin in a vacuum pan or an autoclave to promote resin impregnation into the interior of the neck portion, the neck then being polymerized with a heat energy polymerizing apparatus, an adjusting rod subsequently being inserted from a root side of the resin impregnated and polymerized neck into the long apertur

  • Patent number: 4817693
Abstract: An extension table for a machine tool of the type that includes a machine table that defines a reference plane includes a rigid, straight beam having a lower surface. A ledge is mounted to the lower surface of an outer portion of the beam to extend outwardly from at least one side of the beam, and this ledge defines a continuous upper surface which is substantially coplanar with the lower surface of the beam. The inner portion of the beam is mounted on the machine table with the beam positioned above the machine table such that the outer portion of the beam is cantilevered from the machine table with the lower surface of the beam substantially coplanar with the machine table. The outer portion of the beam is then supported against deflection by a support leg. The beam is sufficiently rigid to ensure that the upper surface of the ledge is substantially coplanar with the machine table.

  • Patent number: 4612966
Abstract: During the parallel splitting up of workpiece panels, in particular, consisting of laminated, compressed wood, it is usually not possible to prevent one of the two panel sections resulting after completion of the last separating cut, more particularly, that which was clamped in the feeding device, from warping on account of material tensions, thereby rendering it useless. In order to avoid this, it is proposed that the trimmed edge of the last remaining panel section facing away from the cutting plane be released prior to the final feeding procedure to be carried out, that it be clamped again immediately thereafter, that a further trimming cut be made on the panel section, and that this panel section then be fixed following the final feeding procedure and trimmed anew. In this process, the last resulting panel section is relieved of tension before being finally trimmed along its two longitudinal sides. This ensures that the trimmed edges subsequently produced thereon are exactly parallel to one another.

  • Patent number: 4545413
Abstract: Device for use in connection with wood chippers of the type comprising a rotary disc (15) whereof one face is fitted with substantially radially positioned knives (1) which are attached thereto by means of knife holders (2) incorporating a log guiding surface. To give a twisted form to one face of the knife holders (2) the latter are fabricated by surface grinding of the log guiding face while the knife holder (2) is clamped in a grinding fixture (20) in a state of torsion which, after removal from the grinding fixture, gives the desired twisted shape to the log guiding face. After removal from the grinding fixture (20) the knife holder (2) is clamped in a torsion-free state in the chipping disc (15).

  • Patent number: 4380336
Abstract: A method is described for manufacturing articles from solid member using a series of cuts whereby a finished article such as a hollow bird house or other article is formed by an efficient and material saving process. The method is characterized by the use of a number of successive generally straight cuts so that the method is simple and produces only a minimal amount of waste of the material used. A typical example of the process comprises the forming of a hollow bird house or similar article from a section of a log.
