Abstract: A method and an apparatus for continuously processing and packing elongated articles (10) such as coherent pairs of chopsticks imply that the articles (10) are continuously advanced in the longitudinal direction in a track and are centrally aligned during the continued advancement. The alignment is performed during the processing by means of one or more processing implements (31, 35) by means of uniform centering rolls (14, 15) operating from their respective side of the plane of symmetry of the articles. These centering rolls are biased by a uniform spring tension. Subsequently the articles are continuously advanced in the transverse direction by means of transverse conveyor means (50, 51) to a bundling device. In the bundling device the articles (10) are situated in layers and collected in a bundle (80) of articles (10) subsequently wrapped in a sheet material (84) in a wrapping device (83).

  • Patent number: 4928399
Abstract: This marking template is preferably made from die-cut uncorrugated cardboard with slots and holes adapted to position a marking tool to define the positions of cuts and holes to be made in a piece of material. Provision is made for cuts to be made at compound angles by forming the slots to intersect a fold line in the template, or extend on opposite sides of it, the slots forming an angle other than perpendicular to the fold line at one or both sides of the fold line. The slot portions for each cut are coplanar. The portions at opposite sides of the slot thus form the traces of a cutting plane disposed at an angle to either of the faces of the template. The template is adapted to be provided in a plurality of sections with respect to length through the use of interengageable slots and tabs, or by nails engaging aligned holes, that assure longitudinal and transverse alignment of the template sections.

In response to forward movement of the carriage, the workpiece is intercepted by a rotating cutting tool which cuts an elongate, longitudinally extending slot into the workpiece from the rear surface thereof at a predetermined distance from the face surface regardless of the thickness of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4632165
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for cutting pairs of symmetrical bevels on opposite sides of halving joints used for windows, doors, and the like, and a groove-like recess on a third side of the workpiece. The first pair of bevels is cut on one side of the clamped workpiece by moving the cutting tool in a horizontal direction over and across the workpiece; then, the workpiece fastened within the clamping device is turned 180.degree. over the operation path of the grooving tool, which cuts the recess automatically during this turning operation. Subsequently, the tool is moved in the opposite direction into the starting position as it cuts the pair of bevels into the second, opposite side of the workpiece, and finally the workpiece is turned back into the starting position.

  • Patent number: 4622090
Abstract: An apparatus and associated method for grooving a relatively rigid planar laminate sheet structure of the type having a relatively rigid substrate layer and a flexible sheet layer fixedly overlying the substrate layer to facilitate the folding of the sheet structure about a right corner defined by two planar surfaces of a polygonal panel during a laminating operation utilizes a circular rotatable grooving blade having teeth having cutting edges providing in cross-section, a V having an apex directed generally radially outwardly of the blade and further utilizes a member associated with the blade for defining first and second guide planes. The teeth cutting edges are adapted to form a V-sectioned groove in the laminate sheet structure as the blade is rotated within a plane oriented generally perpendicular to the plane of the laminate sheet and moved in operative grooving engagement across the laminate sheet.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for shaping the inside corner of slabs of material comprised primarily of polymethyl methacrylate filled with alumina trihydrate. The process involves fastening a connecting slab between horizontal and vertical slabs and shaping the connecting slab with an arcuate shape which meets the flat surfaces of the horizontal and vertical slabs. The tool for the process has cutting surfaces to create the indicated inside corner shape and is used in conjunction with a base for a rotary motor router. The resulting product has a rounded inside corner which appears molded as a single piece, rather than a combination of pieces or slabs.

  • Patent number: 4567927
Abstract: An apparatus for forming elliptical shapes on a workpiece. The invention involves a support frame which includes a pair of uprights having cantilevered beams from which are suspended a support disk. A pair of mutually perpendicular trammel tracks are set into this support frame. A journaled block is mounted into each trammel track. A trammel beam is rotatably mounted to the two journaled blocks, and a tool attached to the trammel beam, so that as the trammel beam rotates, with the blocks restricted to slide each only in its own track, the tool is required to follow an elliptical path. A ring is caused to revolve about the support frame by a prime mover. Attached to the ring is a bearing block, which slideably holds one end of the trammel beam. Thus as the ring revolves, the beam is caused to automatically and continually rotate, with the tool following its elliptical path.

Abstract: A shower pan which forms a base of a shower stall has a one piece drain surface and is capable of being built in various sloping configurations. The shower pan is constructed of a top drain panel supported by graduated shims and perimeter strips which are in turn mounted on a planar foundation. Perimeter strips and graduated shims are secured to the foundation, concentrically spaced apart surrounding a variably located drain opening. The top drain panel is cut to the same contour and size as the foundation and has a rear member, side members, and threshold members to provide lateral water barriers. Kerfed break lines in the top drain panel permit the panel to bend to form a basin like drain surface. The kerfed relief lines are in the form of at least two concentric, straight lined, polygonal cuts which are substantially identical in shape and have their corresponding vertices connected by radial relief lines.
