Rotating Mandrel Or Article Patents (Class 156/446)
  • Patent number: 6554939
Abstract: An improved container is formed by attaching plates to outer side surface areas on opposite end portions of a liner with adhesive. The liner is supported for rotation about an axis which extends through the end portions of the liner and through the plates. The liner is rotated under the influence of torque transmitted to the liner through at least one of the plates and the adhesive attaching the one plate to the liner. Flexible material, which may be strands of continuous glass fibers impregnated with a thermosetting resin, is wound around the liner. As the flexible material is wound around the liner, the flexible material is wound over the plates at the opposite end portions of the liner. The surface areas, to which the plates are attached at opposite ends of the liner, are free of openings to the interior of the liner.

Abstract: Winding cores for the paper industry are restored by removing the metal tips from the ends of the core, trimming the core to eliminate the crimped end portions of the core, providing complementary male and female joint ends to the core, grinding the outer surface of the core to a constant outer diameter less than the industry standard outer diameter to accommodate a finishing layer. The cores with the complementary joints are pressed end to end to form a core master prior to its being ground and then picking up the core masters one by one and bringing them into proximity of a web of liner board material having a length which corresponds to the length of the core master and a width which corresponds to the circumference of the core, contacting the glue bearing liner board web with the core and rotating the core to wrap the web of liner board about the core to provide a finished restored core. The core master is then cut into suitable length winding cores.

The novel apparatus preheats the zinc tape with a nozzle containing heated gas such as nitrogen as it approaches the pipe surface. At the point of contact with the pipe surface, the nozzle continues heating the tape and pipe surface while a plurality of pressure rollers exert sufficient force on the zinc tape to form a metallurgical bond between the zinc tape and the pipe surface.

According to the invention, a number of tube elements (6), having a length suitable for a paint roller, are slipped onto a revolving mandrel (1). The mandrel is rotated at the same time as the fabric is would on and attached to the tube elements, after which the fabric is cut at the joints (8) between the elements. Due to the invention, the cutting can be performed in the same machine without the risk of damaging the mandrel. As the cutting is made through the fabric only, this entails much less knife wear and is less energy-consuming. Preferably, the tube elements have a toothing at their axial ends for mechanical interconnection at the joints between the tube elements and with the mandrel (1).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for labeling containers allows labeling of containers by wrap around labeling without applying an adhesive on the leading edge of the label. Labels are held on a label drum and moved into a label applying position while containers are fed into the label applying position. Air is blown from the label drum onto the leading edge of the label at an angle to the label drum surface and in a direction backward along the label from the leading edge to force the leading edge of the label against the container. The leading edge is maintained on the container by wet adhesion or by air which is blown onto the label and container from the side opposite the label drum.

Abstract: The machine for producing vulcanized rubber tubes comprises two mutually opposite head sections, each having a base that supports two spindles. At least a first one of the two head sections has motorized spindles. A corresponding tubular core is rotated constantly, during operation, between the mutually opposite spindles of the two head sections and is supported, along its span, by supporting elements that are fixed to a supporting frame interposed between the two head sections. The two motorized spindles connected to the first head section are each supported together with a respective drive unit on a first slider that is movably coupled to the corresponding base. The slider is inclined with respect to a horizontal plane such that its upper part is exposed frontally to the operator.

  • Patent number: 5807452
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for attaching wrap-around labels to cylindrical or prismatic containers starting with cutting of a section of a label from a suitable foil material. Then, the label section is shaped or deformed, maximally to the limit of what is reversible for the material being used, at a time immediately prior to the application of the label section onto the exterior of the container. The undulated label section is placed around the exterior of the container so that the edges of the label are overlapping and an adhesion or gluing process is initiated, for example, by reaction and/or heating. Reforming of the shaped or deformed label section is retarded until the label section rests against the exterior of the container along with the permitting the simultaneous progress of the adhesive process to be completed.

  • Patent number: 5798013
Abstract: The present invention refers to a method of producing a tubular lining ho in particular for use in sewer reconstruction work, comprising the steps of forming at least one fibrous strip into a curable, resin-impreganted hose. The inner side of the resultant lining hose is provided with a protective foil. It is the object of the present invention to provide a method of producing a tubular lining hose with the aid of which hoses of arbitrary length can be produced in a simple manner. This object is achieved by producing first a foil hose, which forms the protective foil, by helically winding a foil strip onto a winding mandrel, the fibrous strip being then wound onto said foil hose. In addition, the present invention refers to apparatuses for carrying out said method as well as to the lining hose itself.

  • Patent number: 5779835
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for applying a label onto a substantially cylindrical article by using a bottom feed conveyor unit formed of two chain loops each formed from a plurality of interconnected chain links. Substantially parallel support rods extend between the chain loops and are supported by the chain links. The support rods are spaced a distance sufficient to allow an article to rest thereon. The label drum defines an article wrapping position at a lower portion of the label drum. A thin layer, heat activated adhesive backed label is fed onto the surface of the drum so that the adhesive back faces outward from the drum. The label drum is rotated to move the label retained thereon into the article wrapping position. As the label is moved, the adhesive is heated so that the adhesive obtains a sufficient temperature to melt.

  • Patent number: RE37242
Abstract: A frame, a drive mechanism for rotating a mandrel, at least two spindles mounted to the frame, a tensioner, and a belt extending between the first and second spindles may be used to roll pre-preg strips or similar sheets of composite materials around the mandrel. The belt over the spindles, and the spindles guide the belt through changes in its direction of travel. The mandrel is mounted in the drive mechanism in contact with the belt, which changes its direction of travel around the mandrel. The lower surface of the belt bears against portions of the spindles, and the mandrel contacts the upper surface of the belt. As the drive mechanism rotates the mandrel, pre-preg sheets are fed between the mandrel and the belt and are thereby wrapped around the mandrel. The belt presses the pre-preg sheets against the mandrel. The wrapped mandrel may then be removed from the apparatus and cured in any suitable manner known in the art to produce a composite tubular article.
