Roll Type Patents (Class 160/66)
  • Patent number: 4657059
Abstract: An awning including an awning box having an outlet slot and, on its end sides, bearings for a winding shaft supported in the box, the awning box being non-rotatably mounted in wall fixtures. The canvas for the awning is connected at one end to the winding shaft and at its other end to the extension bar and is guided through the outlet slot. In order to reduce installation tolerance alignment errors between adjacent awnings, and to simplify the installation, the awning box contains, at least on one side, an attachment extending in the longitudinal direction of the winding shaft. The associated wall fixture, for receiving the attachment, contains at least one bifurcated extension extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the winding shaft, so that the attachment is inserted in the jaw of the extension, with the jaw being open in the radial direction with respect to the winding shaft.

  • Patent number: 4655010
Abstract: A support frame for an awning having a cover made from a single piece of fabric (13), has the peculiarity of comprising support brackets (1) for attachment to a support structure such as a wall or a ceiling, the brackets (1) supporting a square bar (2) on which are carried attachment elements (3) fitted to the ends of guides (4) on which are slidable carriages (10) for displacement of an awning cover draw bar (12) attached at or ajacent to one end of the awning cover (13). The draw bar (12) overlies the said guides (4) over the whole of its longitudinal length so that a single piece of fabric can be used for the awning (13) even if the frame has several spans. At its other end the awning fabric (13) is wound on a wind up roller (14) rotatably supported by arms (15) connected to the square bar (2).

  • Patent number: 4634172
Abstract: A recreational vehicle which has a first longitudinally extending rail C-shaped in transverse cross-section is combined with a metal cover for a roll-up awning having a second longitudinally extending rail C-shaped in transverse cross-section. A waterproof connector between the vehicle and the metal cover includes a pair of rods, each rod being capable of fitting within one of the first and second C-shaped rails, a synthetic organic resin strip wrapped around each rod forming a flexible multi-ply connection between the rods extending substantially the entire length thereof and forming a watertight hinge therebetween. Water is then prevented from flowing between the recreational vehicle and the metal cover for the roll-up awning when the awning is extended and the synthetic organic resin strip is under tension connecting the recreational vehicle and the roll-up awning metal cover.

  • Patent number: 4509576
Abstract: A sunshade fitting convertible into a veranda curtain fitting comprises a fixed grooved column on which a likewise grooved curtain supporting arm is pivotally mounted, the pivot means of these two elements being formed by a fixed member firmly secured to the column, projecting circumferentially therefrom and provided with a series of notches, and a jaw member firmly secured to the curtain supporting arm and rotatably fitting the fixed member, the relative position of the two members and thus of the arm and column being adjustable by means of a pin firmly secured to the arm. A pair of lateral grooves is provided on the pivot means to form two paths of movement, one along the column for the veranda position and the other along the arm for the sunshade position, for upward and downward movement of the curtain supporting roller. At the lower ends of the paths of movement of both the column and the movable arm there is provided a locking labyrinth for fixing the curtain.

  • Patent number: 4508776
Abstract: A microporous metallized fabric suitable for use as a thermally-insulating material in a hostile environment comprises a microporous fabric substrate for example of a spun-bonded polyethylene having a layer of aluminum deposited thereon by a vacuum deposition technique. A thin layer--typically of 0.9-1.0 g/m.sup.2 --of a polyamide-based ink is then printed on to the metallizing, by way of a photogravure printing process, in such a way as not to affect the porous structure of the metallized fabric. The metallized fabric of this invention finds a particular application as screening for commercial glass-houses, to reduce the heat-losses therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4495977
Abstract: An exterior wind-up awning having a high degree of thermal insulation to provide a cool shaded area comprises a flexible insulating sheet 3 of alveolate material such as plastic foam attached to a canvas sheet 1. A plastic film 2 is glued between the canvas and the foam sheet. Mating or nesting spacer bead strips 5, 6 are provided along the length of the awning on opposite sides of the canvas, flanking the foam sheets, to prevent their destructive compression during roll-up.

  • Patent number: 4214621
Abstract: Awning mechanism for store-front awnings and the like to provide protection against sunlight, rain, etc. The awning mechanism includes a primary awning roller on which the awning cloth is wound and which is provided with means for imparting rotation thereto. A parallel drop tube is affixed to scissor-jack extension arms which hold the drop tube at variable distances from the primary awning roller. In one embodiment of the invention, the drop tube contains a rotatable reversing roller and a longitudinal slot which permits looping the awning cloth over the reversing roller. After the awning cloth emerges from the drop tube, it depends freely therefrom to constitute a flyer of variable length. The reversing roller is provided with separate rotating means so as to permit an independent adjustment of the length of the dependent portion of the awning.

  • Patent number: 4198998
Abstract: The following specification discloses a retractable awning for a vehicle. The awning has a portion which serves to form the outside cover thereof when it is stowed and has a plurality of main bracing arms that are angularly secured to the side of the vehicle by brackets attached thereto and a pair of stabilizer arms which stabilize the awning in an extended position when held by the angular bracing members. Both the bracing arms and the stabilizer arms fold into a lead bar which can be wrapped within the awning proper and attached to the side of the vehicle whereby a portion of the awning forms a cover therefor. A pair of fairings or nacelles are secured to the ends of the awning when it is in its stowed condition in order to maintain the awning in a smooth, streamlined configuration.

  • Patent number: 4164972
Abstract: An awning assembly including an awning, a pair of main support arms, and a pair of rafter arms is collapsible from an extended position to a stored position. In the stored position the awning assembly is enclosed in a box which is mounted to a wall. In the extended position the rafter arms extend from the box and the main support arms extend from the wall to support the awning. The box can be formed in four lightweight interlocking extrusions. A bracket braces the interlocking extrusions, supports the awning in the stored position, and elevates the rafter arms within the box. A foot is pivotal on each of the main support arms to permit attachment of the main support arm to the wall or ground.

  • Patent number: 4020888
Abstract: A retractable awning adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface and being movable between an extended position away from the supporting surface and a retracted position adjacent to the supporting surface includes a roll bar about which an awning sheet is selectively windable with the roll bar being rotatably disposed within an elongated tubular case. The case has an elongated bead projecting away therefrom adapted to be releasably retained in a mating groove provided in a mounting rail which is securable to the supporting surface. The case carrying the roll bar for the awning is, therefore, connected to the supporting surface by a tongue-in-groove connection. An auxiliary case is suspended from the main case and is adapted to releasably retain brace members which serve to retain the outer edge of the awning sheet in a position extended away from the supporting surface when the awning is in use.
