Abstract: A method and apparatus for conditioning a fibrous material. The conditioning arrangement includes a moisturizing chamber having two series of opposed rollers arranged to accept a fiber batt into a pressing space therebetween. The pressing space tapers from a batt entrance toward a batt exit. This tapered configuration is affected for compressing a fiber batt as it is rolled therethrough. As illustrated, before entering the conditioner, the cotton batt has a greater thickness than after compaction and processing through the moisturizing chamber. A moisture infusion assembly is provided within the moisturizing chamber and has an air distributor configured to dispense moisture laden air adjacent to a fiber batt being processed through the pressing space. An air collector is configured to pull exhaust air away from the fiber batt being processed through the pressing space.

The arrangement is such that relative cross machine directional movement between the guide rail and the blade adjust the elevation of the operative surface relative to the wire.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning the forming fabric used on a papermaking machine includes a chamber surrounding a span of the forming fabric on either side thereof. A source of sub-atmospheric air pressure is connected to the chamber for removing water mist surrounding the fabric. Mounted within the chamber is a pair of high pressure-low volume water impingement showers in substantially opposed array for directing jets of relatively high pressure water against the forming fabric as the forming fabric passes through the chamber via slots on either end thereof. In a preferred embodiment, downstream of the pair of high pressure needle showers is a second shower apparatus comprising a relatively low pressure-high volume flooding water shower to direct a water spray against the inner side of the looped forming fabric to flood the interstices of the forming fabric with water to wash out pulp fibers therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6010443
Abstract: An elastic clamping ring for an enclosed shoe press roll used to clamp the jacket to the gables of the shoe press roll is disclosed. A rigid clamping ring is arranged on the inner side of each gable to form a groove which opens outwardly in the radial direction and in which the elastic clamping ring is received. A stop member is arranged radially outside the elastic clamping ring. By operation of securing members, the rigid clamping ring is forced in the direction of the peripheral gable part in order to squeeze the elastic clamping ring such that it expands outwardly in the radial direction and clamps the edge of the jacket between itself and the stop member. The invention also relates to a shoe press roll that uses an elastic clamping ring with a hexagonal cross section for clamping of the jacket of the shoe press roll to the gables of the shoe press roll.
