  • Patent number: 5330012
Abstract: The present invention is for an improved feed shell for an air-flushing, rock-drilling system. The improvement extends the life of the feed shell and, in particular, the feed guide of a feed shell on which gibs for directing a rock drill ride. The system, as improved, provides a first nozzle which directs fluid onto a first guide surface of the feed guide and second nozzle which directs fluid onto a second guide surface of the feed guide. The nozzles can be mounted in either manifolds or, alternatively, in the gibs which support and guide the drill on the feed guide.

  • Patent number: 5244048
Abstract: A drilling system for drilling upwardly under automobiles, and for drilling in a direction away from a drill base in other uses, having a base to which a post is attached. A drill carrier slides on the post. A collar is adjustable to anchoring positions along the post by means of a collar setscrew. A hand-lever pivoted to the drill carrier at one end has a mid-lever-fulcrum-axis at a pivotal attachment to the collar whereby a drill on the carrier moves away from the base when the post is vertical beneath an automobile and the other end of the lever is pulled downwardly in the direction of gravity-pull.

  • Patent number: 4877091
Abstract: A downcrowdable telescopic augering apparatus and drilling rig is disclosed that has a low overhead requirement and yet can drill large diameter holes ot great depths. The invention is especially useful for drilling foundation holes. One embodiment of the invention can ready over walls and in-place equipment for drilling holes. One embodiment of the invention can drill holes at almost any angle desired into the earth. One embodiment can drill holes on steeply inclined terrains. Because of its low overhead requirement, the drilling rigs of this invention can be used inside existing building without damaging the ceilings or roofs to drill foundation holes for mounting new machinery. The downcrowd means of this invention does not substantially increase the height of the augering apparatus or drilling rig.

  • Patent number: 4757866
Abstract: An hydraulic drill feed unit is provided having a main support frame extending from its mounting on a base plate. Single stage cylinders are located on either side of the main support frame and also extend from the base plate. A subframe adapted to travel upon the main support frame is connected to the single stage cylinders. A two stage cylinder is attached to the subframe and extends to a slide member adapted to travel upon the main support frame. The slide member, to which the drill is attached, can move with the subframe responsive to the single stage cylinders and can move relative to the subframe responsive to the two stage cylinder. Each of the cylinders are equipped with ball and socket connectors which allow the drill feed unit to obtain increased lift out of a minimum space. In such a manner, the drill can be positioned to engage the rock strata in very narrow mineshafts or tunnels.

  • Patent number: 4472002
Abstract: The body of a bit guide assembly is mounted on a base which pivots on a frame about a first pivot point and may thus be retracted in order to allow the passage of the anchoring bolt screwed after drilling a hole. A double-acting jack has its rod pivoted on the base, whereas its body is pivoted on a dog, in turn mounted to pivot on the frame about a second pivot opposite the pivot point. The dog comprises a locking tooth which cooperates with the end of the base remote from the first pivot point. The free end of the dog cooperates with a retaining tooth formed on a connecting-rod, mounted to pivot about a fixed pin and biased by a spring against a stop. The same jack thus controls the retraction of the bit guide, for bolting and its locking in the lowered position, for drilling.

  • Patent number: 4407373
Abstract: A drilling apparatus of the type including a platform, a pair of spaced, parallel, substantially vertical guide rails, and a power swivel which is guided along the guide rails is provided with a pair of space support surfaces positioned on the underside of the swivel. In addition, a pair of collapsible pedestals are mounted on the platform, each pedestal positioned under a respective support surface such that the swivel rests on the pedestals when lowered toward the platform. These pedestals are provided with a collapse strength chosen such that the pedestals collapse in a controlled, progressive manner, substantially without damage to the guide rails, in the event the swivel falls from at least a predetermined height. In this way both the platform and any drill string attached to the swivel are protected from excessive loads associated with abrupt deceleration of the swivel, and the incidence of string breakage due to such abrupt deceleration is at least substantially reduced.
