Abstract: A suitcase has four casters respectively fitted to the four corner portions of the suitcase body, and a handle capable of being stopped in an extended position where the handle is extended up from the suitcase body and a lowered position where the handle is pushed into the suitcase body. The casters are free casters which can freely run in all directions. The handle is provided at its upper end with a gripping part. The gripping part of the handle is disposed in the middle or substantially in the middle of the upper face of the suitcase, and is oriented in the longitudinal direction of the upper face of the suitcase body. When the handle is pushed down into the suitcase body, a gripping space is defined between the gripping part and the upper face of the suitcase body.

Abstract: The combination briefcase and computer bag assembly includes a housing member having a bottom member, a plurality of side members, and a pair of pivotable top flap members. One of the side members includes a flexible floating compartment that is dimensionally configured to receive a portable computer. When the portable computer is held in the flexible floating compartment, it will substantially extend in the briefcase enclosure to protect the portable computer. Straps on the top flaps enable a top flap to be held in an open position when fastened about an extendable handle.

Abstract: A suitcase which is constructed of individual panels joined to each other by hinge mechanisms. The hinge mechanisms allow the panels to selectively form right angles so that the panels form a suitcase shell in the shape of a rectangular prism having a storage space, or selectively allow the panels to be folded against each other so that the suitcase may be stored flat. The suitcase has wheel assemblies, and straps which help hold the suitcase together, and hold the wheel assemblies against the suitcase shell.

Abstract: Automatically retractable and extendable wheel assembly is disclosed for use in conjunction with luggage cases, especially upright carry-on luggage cases and garment bags. Luggage wheels automatically extend to provide a luggage case which is tilted and with a long wheel base so that the case may comfortably and with stability be pushed or pulled across the floor upon three or more wheels, thereby removing the weight of the case from the user's arm. When the case is removed from the floor, the luggage wheels automatically retract to a protected position, thereby reducing the overall dimensions of the case to permit it to be carried aboard aircraft and stored in overhead luggage bins. Apparatus is disclosed for preventing inadvertent retraction of a wheel when the wheel encounters a pebble or crack in the floor.

Abstract: The invention relates to hard sided luggage shells and other containers manufactured using vacuum forming or pressure forming of thermoplastics. Shells and containers with integrally molded frames are disclosed. The differential pressure formed shell containers have framed openings, but without the need to attach a separate frame element to the molded shell.

The luggage piece has a collapsed configuration and an erect configuration and includes a front panel, a rear panel and a collapsible wall structure disposed between the front and rear panels for cooperation therewith to define an expandable compartment. The wall structure has a first aperture therethrough and a first erecting panel is connected to the collapsible wall structure. The first erecting panel has a first locking element disposed thereon, wherein in the erect configuration the first erecting panel is substantially perpendicular to the rear panel and the first locking element is disposed through the aperture to rigidly attach the first erecting panel to the collapsible wall structure to maintain the luggage piece in the erect configuration and wherein in the collapsed configuration the first erecting panel is moved to a position not perpendicular to the rear panel to allow the luggage piece to collapse.

Abstract: A retractable handle assembly for a suitcase includes a handle with an actuating member. Each end of the actuating member is connected to an end of a rod which is received in an inner tube slidably received in an outer tube. The outer tube has an inner side with a plurality of protrusions extending radially therefrom so as to define a plurality of recesses. A first member disposed on the other end of the inner tube has a top from which a flexible plate depends. The plate has a block disposed at a distal end. The second end of the rod is connected to a second member. The second member pushes the block against the inner side of the outer tube. When the actuating member is lifted, it lifts the rod and frees the block. The inner tubes can then be lifted.

The luggage pull rod includes a pair of inner tubes, a handle, an engaging board and a base seat. The adjustable latch boards includes an upper pressing board and a base board. The upper pressing board is a reverse L-shaped board body having a vertical section disposed with two latch clips on two sides. Each latch clip is disposed with a through hole for the outer tube to pass thereinto and for a bolt to tighten the outer tube. A horizontal section of the pressing board is formed with several through holes for riveting pin members therein so as to secure the additional luggage case. The base board is an L-shaped board body having a vertical section disposed with two latch clips on two sides. The outer end of each block has rectangular dents to match the rectangular teeth of the rack. A button is disposed between two rail plates. A front cover plate covers the front opening of the seat.

Two catches each formed on the side extension are each located in a corresponding casing. Abstract: A luggage system of the present invention is provided for transporting an additional piece of luggage having a supplementary tow handle when positioned on a piece of wheeled luggage. The luggage system preferably includes a first piece of wheeled luggage including a body, wheels connected to lower end portions of the body, and a wheeled luggage tow handle connected to the body for towing the wheeled luggage. A second piece of luggage detachably mounts to the wheeled luggage tow handle of the first piece of luggage and is positioned to overlie upper portions of the body of the first piece of wheeled luggage. The second piece of luggage preferably includes a body, a handle retainer connected to the body for retaining the wheeled luggage tow handle, and a supplementary towing handle connected to the body for towing the combination of the first and second pieces of luggage. A method for towing a combination of a piece of luggage and a piece of wheeled luggage by a user is also provided.

A pair of wheel members are preferably attached to the bottom of the body member and handle member is attached to the back portion of the body member. A cover member is also provided to prevent any stored clothing or articles from falling out of the storage area while the storage unit is in transit.

The casings each includes a projection for engaging with one or more cavities of the barrel so as to position the barrel at an angular position relative to the casing.

In the retracted position, the gripping member of the pull handle is received into a handle receptacle recessed into the top portion of the wall member. A closure secures the pull handle inside the handle receptacle to prevent accidental extension of the pull handle.

When four wheels are used, the full weight of the case and its contents are borne by the wheels, relieving the user from having to bear with her arm any of the weight of the luggage. The body of the case is designed to have a specific range of tilt angles from the vertical; by tilting the body of the case toward the user, the design of the case improves the stability of the case while it is pushed across a supporting surface on four wheels. Various case body configurations and push handle arrangements are disclosed.

Abstract: A retractable handle assembly for a suitcase includes a base disposed on an upper portion of the suitcase, an actuating device, a cover element and a handle. An outer tube is disposed on each side of the suitcase and extends between the base and the bottom of the suitcase with an inner tube retractably received in each of the outer tubes. Each of the inner tubes has a first end extending through the base and cover element and is attached to the handle. A resilient element is received in one of the inner tubes and has a protrusion extending radially through the cover element. The actuating device has a sliding element which is connected by a spring to a biasing portion. One end of the sliding portion is inserted into the cover element and an inner tube. One end of the biasing portion contacts the protrusion of the resilient element. When the actuating device is slid, it pushes the protrusion from the cover element and withdraws the end of the sliding portion from the cover element, freeing the inner tubes.

Abstract: An improved pull rod structure for use on a trunk is equipped with a pair of retaining posts each having a plurality of closely defined locking recesses. The retaining post is housed in an integrally formed side groove of an outer sleeve in which an inner tube having a latch assembly disposed in a tubular housing is secured to the bottom end. A spring biased latch fixed to the bottom end of a vertical driving linkage rod can be actuated to stick out of or retrieve a protrusion from an opening to selectively engage one of the locking recesses in a nearly stageless manner when a pivotal control member engaged with a handle of a trunk is pivoted or released.

Abstract: A retractable handle assembly is provided for a side plate of a suitcase and includes an outer casing having a lower portion pivotally mounted to a lower portion of the side plate. A lug is formed on the outer casing and has a chamber defined therein. A horizontal post is formed on the side plate and a biasing member is urged between the horizontal post and the lug. Two retaining blocks are each formed on an upper portion of the side plate and each has a guiding groove vertically defined therein. A linking member includes a first axle pivotally attached to an upper portion of the outer casing and a second axle having two distal ends each being stopped by a corresponding one of the two retaining blocks and each being slidable in an associated guiding groove. An inner casing is slidably mounted in the outer casing.

The hook member is preferably pivotal to an extended position in which to attach to luggage and to a retracted position which consumes less space than in the extended position.

A second compartment is provided for carrying second items. The second items are distinguishable from the first items in that the second compartment includes a hanging device for hanging articles from the hanging device. The second compartment, therefore, acts as a garment carrier and the first compartment acts as a standard luggage compartment. The first compartment and the second compartment are integrally formed as a single luggage piece for simple packing and unpacking of articles as well as simplified transport of the luggage piece following packing of the articles. An extendable arm having a handle and wheels is provided for transport of the luggage piece.

Abstract: The invention relates to a telescoping pull handle for use in towing wheeled luggage. The handle may be collapsed to a reduced length to accommodate easy use with luggage that is carried onto and stowed in passenger transportation vehicles. The invention also is extendable to a sufficient length to permit the user comfortably to tow the wheeled luggage across a supporting surface. The invention includes incorporating into the telescoping handle devices permitting the user to strap or hook to the wheeled luggage auxiliary items of luggage. An improved extendable grip is disclosed for use with the inventive handle.

Abstract: A retractable handle locating structure which includes two sleeves, two sliding tubes slidably inserted into the sleeves and joined by a transverse handgrip outside the sleeves, and two gravity-induced locating elements mounted inside the sliding tubes for locking the sliding tubes, each gravity-induced locating element including a heavy pendulum pivoted to the inside of one sliding tube, and a curved locating rod having a fixed end connected to the heavy pendulum, and a free end inserted into one locating hole on one sliding tube and, the free end of each curved locating rod being forced in and out of one of a longitudinal series of locating holes on one sleeve by the gravity weight of the respective heavy pendulum when the travel bag is tilted.

Abstract: An article of wheeled luggage having improved mobility characteristics employs a wheeled pivotable leg operatively coupled to a retractable and extendable handle. The article becomes self-supported in a forwardly-tilted configuration when the user tilts the article and causes the wheeled pivotable leg to swing outwardly from the forward surface of the article. Stable support in the tilted position is provided by at least one rolling member on the bottom surface of the article proximate a forward surface thereof and by at least one rolling member on the base of the pivotable leg. In the tilted configuration, the article has a lower center of gravity and a larger wheelbase or footprint than when the article is standing upright, and is better able to counteract overturning forces.

Abstract: A trunk includes a trunk body reinforced by a lining and a supporting frame on the inside and defines a storage chamber. The trunk body includes a top notch, a front cover covering the storage chamber at one side, a metal frame fastened around the periphery of the storage chamber at an opposite side relative to the front cover, and a back cover fixedly fastened to the metal frame and coveting the storage chamber opposite to the front cover. The metal frame has a top recessed portion defining, with the top notch, a handle mounting space. A handle mounting frame assembly is mounted in the handle mounting spaced and includes an upper handle holder and a bottom handle holder. The bottom handle holder includes a recessed portion and the upper handle holder includes a recessed portion fitted into the recessed portion on the bottom handle holder.

Abstract: A luggage case has a generally rectangular prismatic configuration of a size and shape similar to a flight bag when in the closed position, and presents a garment bag when in the expanded or open position. The luggage case comprises a support structure and a flexible panel connected to the support structure which extends laterally from the support structure to expose the interior of both the panel and the support structure. A selective attachment device connects the panel to the support structure to close the luggage case, forming the prismatic configuration. A support piece is connected to the interior of the panel to hold packed articles in the appropriate position. A packing pouch is connected to the support structure to extend from the interior of the case opposite of the panel when the case is opened. The packing pouch folds into the interior of the case and overlaps the packed articles when the case is in the closed position.

Abstract: A wheeled carry-on case has a rigid base and a guide extending perpendicular to said base in which a retractable handle is slidably received, the base having wheels positioned along the major dimension of the base at one edge thereof, and having wheels positioned at spaced positions along at least one of the minor dimensions of the base, thus permitting the case to be wheeled over a ground surface in a direction perpendicular to a front and rear of the case, and also, in a direction extending parallel to the front and rear wall of the case.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a trunk pulling structure that has a simple structure and achieves overall beauty, easy production, low cost, convenience and a nice outlook. The pull strap is attached to a side of the trunk and made from cloth sheet, sewn around a bracing bar, having a hold hole and handle bar. An inner side has a fastener strip on the trunk. The trunk can be pulled with the pull strap, and when not in use, the pull strap can be fastened to the trunk by the cooperating fastener strips.
