Abstract: A handle and restraint assembly is for carries and maneuvering a main luggage case having wheels. An extendable handle is moveable into a fully extended position, a fully retracted position, and a selected intermediate position. A restraint device is operatively connected to the handle to selectively restrain the handle in the extended and retracted positions. The restraint device includes a selectively extendable elongated flexible belt by which to connect an auxiliary luggage case for carrying on the main case. The elongated flexible element is extendable for connection to the handle, and may restrain the handle in an intermediate position for carrying the case or for pulling the case on the wheels. A first clutch controls the extension, retraction and retention of the belt, and a second clutch controls the extension, retraction and retention of the handle. The first and second clutches are separately operable independently or they are interconnected to operate simultaneously.

Abstract: Handles to carry luggage handles have been made of a variety of materials and in a variety of styles. Some require specially molded, cast, or stamped parts of plastic, rubber or metal. But, such handles tend to be expensive and heavy. Here a handle is constructed from a pair of webbing pieces edge stitched to form an elongated tube into which a specially constructed filler member or core is inserted. This core comprises a central stiffening member of a tempered steel wire rod and a plastic tube. Several layers of foam padding are wound around this member, and the entire assembly is slid into the cavity formed by the edge sewn webbing pieces to form a grip. The lengths of the webbing pieces are such to form integral straps for attaching the grip directly to a luggage case.

Abstract: An internal frame for supporting a wheeled suitcase comprises a base, a U-shaped frame mounted on top of the base and a modular central frame comprising an L-shaped head set having an L-shaped brace and all extension board connected to the front end of the L-shaped brace, two rectangular tubes slidably connected to the lower end of the L-shaped brace, and two sockets connected to the lower ends of the two rectangular tubes. The upper end of the central frame is mounted to the top panel of the U-shaped frame and the lower end of the central frame is mounted to the rear end of the base so that the structure of the internal frame is greatly strengthened by the central frame. The modular central frame design not only can strengthen the structure of a wheeled suitcase, but is also flexible for change.

Abstract: A rolling travel case has a body having top and bottom sides, generally vertical front and back ends, and side faces. A plurality of horizontally spaced wheels on the bottom side allow the body to be rolled via the wheels on the ground. A handle is secured to outer ends of a pair of flexible leads each having an inner end secured at a respective rear location on the front end and an outer end secured at a respective front location on the handle. The rear locations are spaced from each other and the front locations are spaced from each other. The rear locations are horizontally spaced on the case. The case is generally symmetrical to a vertical symmetry plane and the rear locations normally symmetrically flank the plane.

Abstract: A steering handle assembly is exteriorly mounted on an end wall of a mobile carrying case. The assembly is movable among a stowed position and a plurality of steering positions, and a steering handle is extendible and retractable to a desired elevation. The case can either be carried by hand or rolled along the ground.

Abstract: A modular wheeled luggage system of the present invention has major components particularly sized to be positioned either underneath or in the overhead storage area above a passenger's seat in a passenger compartment of an airplane. A first major component of the luggage system preferably is a first piece of luggage having overall respective length, width, and depth dimensions of no greater than 24-inches by 16-inches by 10-inches. The first piece of luggage includes a body portion, wheels connected to lower end portions of the body portion, and a luggage connector detachably connected to the body portion for detachably connecting additional luggage thereto. A second major component preferably includes second and third pieces of luggage connected together and sized to have overall respective length, width, and depth dimensions no greater than 24-inches by 16-inches by 10-inches.

Abstract: A retractable handle apparatus for user-defined selective movement of an article of luggage along an underlying ground or supporting surface includes an elongate rigid graspable portion secured to a front wall surface of the article by a flexible portion that is coupled to the rigid portion. The flexible portion permit multi-directional pivotal and axially rotative movement of the graspable portion relative to the fixed front wall surface. A spring assembly extending along the flexible portion provides automatic return of the graspable portion to an initial position of nonuse when the handle is released by the user.

Abstract: A protective tote bag is for covering and carrying a briefcase of the type having a handle at the top and having a length, a height and a width defining a rectangular shape. The protective tote bag includes an enclosure which is formed of a protective fabric material and having two closed sides, two closed ends and a closed bottom defining a rectangular shape sufficiently large for accommodating the briefcase to be covered and with a closable opening along a top edge thereof. A support strap having a width corresponding to a minimum width of the briefcase to be covered is securely fastened as through stitching and along two ends extending around the bottom of the enclosure. A shoulder strap is securely fastened to the support strap at each end of the enclosure so that it extends above the closable opening at the top edge of the enclosure to form a loop which has a sufficient length for supporting the tote bag over a human being's shoulder.

Abstract: A catalog case has a molded body attached to its bottom or hinge thereto and forming channels for the shanks of a pull-out handle which can be used to pull the case along. Preferably the case has two wheels at the rear end opposite the handle so that the case can be tilted upwardly about these wheels and pulled along the ground or floor while the wheel rides thereon. The pull-out handle can engage in grips at both ends of its travel so that the handle is only fixed relative to its guides at the opposite ends of its travel.

A hidden base is fixedly received in the bracket and has two legs each respectively extending through the bracket. Two outer tubes each have an upper end securely mounted around a corresponding one of the two legs and rested on an underside of the bracket. Two inner tubes each are slidably mounted in a corresponding one of the two outer tubes and each have an upper end slidable in a corresponding one of the two legs to be slidably received in a recess defined in the hidden base. A handle portion is received in the recess and has two distal ends each fixedly mounted on the upper end of a corresponding one of the two inner tubes. A cap is pivotally mounted on the hidden base for enclosing the recess.

Abstract: A recessed hook assembly positions a hook member at an exterior surface of a garment bag in such a manner that external unanticipated random forces are generally ineffective in dislodging the hook from the recess, but still allows it to be relatively easily dislodged and extended by the user to lift the garment bag and suspend it. The recessed hook assembly includes a housing defining a recess, an elongated flexible member connected to the hook member, and a retraction mechanism connected to the other end of the flexible elongated member to hold the hook member in the recess and still allow it to be easily removed for suspending the garment bag. Abstract: Dozens of companies offer many different types of cases specifically designed to carry microcomputers. One type of microcomputer, the laptop style, can be carried by hand or from a shoulder strap in such cases. Unfortunately, as these microcomputers become more powerful tools for scientists, students, engineers, artists, and medical personnel, there is a ever greater need to protect these devices while enhancing their ready access and ease of use. These two conflicting requirements, easy removal from the carrying case, and superior protection from weather and impact, have not been adequately met by these several computer cases. This computer case provides a main packing space for the microcomputer defined by a "C" shaped rigid frame and corresponding shock absorbing pad, the forth side of the packing space is selectively closed by a padded access door. The handle and/or shoulder strap is riveted to the upper side of this "C" shaped frame.

A pair of slots are formed in the front portion of the board and communicating with the holes. The slots each includes two end portions. The slots of the board each includes a narrower middle portion so as to maintain the legs of the handle in either of the end portions of the slot.

The frame member has a pair of longitudinal grooves, while the handle member has two first tubes mounted securely in the longitudinal grooves, at least one of the first tubes being provided with a plurality of longitudinally aligned holes, and a U-shaped handle with two opposed second tubes inserted slidably in the first tubes. A spring-loaded projection member is mounted to the first end of the second tube which is enclosed by the first tube that is formed with the longitudinally aligned holes. A spring-biased actuating lever is mounted pivotally to the U-shaped handle such that a front end of the actuating lever is located nearer to the second tube than a rear end of the same. A rigid connecting stick is disposed inside the second tube and connects the spring-loaded projection member to the front end of the actuating lever. When the lever is at the normal condition, the spring-loaded projection member engages one of the holes of the first tube.

A handle assembly includes a pair of strut assemblies secured to opposed sides of the receptacle and a handle extending transversely between distal ends of the strut assemblies. The receptacle includes a first pair of channels formed in opposed sides of the receptacle to secure the strut assemblies in a retracted, storage position with the handle abutting one end of the case. A second pair of channels are formed in opposed sides of the receptacle to support the strut assemblies in an erected, operative position to enable pushing, pulling, and steering the case in rolling fashion. The first and second channels formed in each side intersect, and a pivot assembly at the intersection supports the proximal end of each strut assembly.

Abstract: A retractable luggage handle mounting hardware including a top mounting frame, a sleeve holder and a bottom mounting frame respectively fastened to a luggage on the inside to hold a retractable handle, wherein the luggage has an opening on the top panel thereof aligned with the top mounting frame, and a cover flap fastened to the top panel by a zip fastener to close the opening of the top panel permitting the hand grip to be concealed inside the luggage when the retractable handle is collapsed.

The rod assembly is integrally molded and cannot be pulled out from the retaining plate.

Abstract: The partitionable traveling bag includes a support wall, an external covering including a body portion and a lid portion, a perimeter support band, and a partition material secured within the body portion between the support wall and the perimeter support band. The partition material spans across the traveling bag's body portion partitioning the traveling bag into front and rear compartments, while simultaneously providing structural support to the traveling bag. The partition material includes a zippered flap portion providing access to the rear compartment without having to detach the partition material from the body portion of the traveling bag. Abstract: A foldaway luggage pull handle includes a handle having a pivot joint pivotally fastened to a suitcase by a mounting plate and a locating plate. The pivot joint consists of a polygonal shaft, a pair of inner knobs mounted around the shaft and secured against rotary motion relative to the shaft, a spring stopped between the inner knobs, and a pair of outer knobs turned by the shaft and respectively meshed with the inner knobs, wherein when the handle is turned, the outer knobs are disengaged from the inner knobs, thus permitting the handle to be moved to a desired angle, so that when the handle is released, the outer and inner knobs are meshed into engagement, thus again causing the handle to be firmly retained in the adjusted position.

Abstract: A concealed retractable U-shaped handle for a suitcase which can be retained at any desired angle to facilitate pushing and lifting the suitcase after the handle is fully extended. The handle includes socket seats and balls for adjustment of the pushing and lifting angle. Each of the adjacent ends of the handle is slidably retained to a ball in the socket seat by a washer and bolt so that the handle may be freely adjusted for the desired pulling and lifting angle by the free rotation of the balls in the socket seats. A backing plate, two channel elements and a cover form a guide raft assembly at a selected side of the suitcase for free reciprocation of the retractable handle.

An elongated member is connected to the suitcase via a ball and socket arrangement and a handle is rotatably mounted to the distal end of the member. The handle is manipulatable in and into a plurality of positions to omnidirectionally rotate the ball relative to the socket and thereby steer the article in a particular direction. In the preferred embodiment, the member is formed of an elongated arm and a relatively shorter connecting member that extends from the ball and is pivotally connected to the arm upon which the handle is mounted. The arm may, in turn, be formed of a pair of telescoping rods.

The handle can be withdrawn from a frame within the article which provides structure for the latter.

The circuits are covered by a removable insulation member. The top is connected to the base and is movable relative to the base between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the top and base are in nested contact. In the open position, the top is raised relative to the base. A storage compartment is provided in the base. The storage compartment and circuits can be accessed when the top is in the open position. When the top is in the closed position, the insulation member insulates the circuits from the storage compartment. A handle is provided on the console and is suitable for hand gripping so that the control console can be carried.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adjustable towing handle for a trunk to provide a towing structure that is convenient and practical to use and to increase the convenience for the use of the trunk. The adjustable handle has a support seat, two fixed rods, two adjustable ends, a fixed rod seat, and a control tube, with two pins. The control tube with springs and two pins are attached in the support seat and sealed with a coverplate. The fixed rod extends between the fixing rod seat and the support seat on the back of a trunk or case body. A handle is mounted on the adjustable ends and they are inserted into the two fixed rods. The pins are rotated by the motion of a body on the control tube to retain or release the adjustable rods to effect the adjusting and positioning of the adjustable handle.

The housing is intended to be screwed to the top side of a suitcase. The pull handle is a rectangular cross-section rod with a hand grip at one end and two pins protruding 90 degrees to its axis at its other end. The housing cover includes a channel, allowing the pull handle rod to slide longitudinally inside the housing. A manually adjustable bridge stop is located about midway along the housing length, so that the pull handle may be used with only half its length extended, providing a rigid handle for pulling a suitcase. The pull handle can also be used fully extended and pivoted on the end of the housing at any comfortable angle for pulling a suitcase.

A handle member has two upright tubular portions which are inserted slidably into two upright tubular sleeves formed on the inner face of the cover plate. The handle member further has a horizontal second hook support extending across distal top ends of the tubular portions.

Hingedly connected to the rigid rod is an anchor which remains captively within and in predetermined axial registration with the tube while the rigid rod and hinge portion are extracted from the tube. The pivotal connection allows the rigid steering rod to be pivotally displaced upwardly and downwardly in a substantially vertical plane. The axial registration of the steering rod anchor to the swiveling inner tube assures that, in addition to vertically pivotal movement, the steering rod may be radially swiveled or rotated about a substantially horizontal plane by virtue of a mechanical connection between the anchor and the inner tube.

Abstract: A collapsible frame structure for a luggage assembly comprises two elongated bar members telescopically and movably received within two elongated tubular members at the lower ends thereof through skew holes provided on the receiving ends of the tubular members so as to make the bar members skew with respect to the tubular member and thus a frictional sleeve attached to the lower end of each of the bar members is in a frictional engagement with the inside surface of the respective tubular member. With such a frictional engagement, the bar members are allowed to move relative to the tubular members when forcibly pushed or pulled while capable of being maintained at any desirable position along the length of the tubular members.

Abstract: A travel bag having a handle assembly consisting of an elongated handle bar movably inserted in a channel plate for carrying, and a U-shaped auxiliary handle pivoted to the channel plate for lifting. The travel bag also has a fixed castor on a curved bottom thereof in the middle, a first pair of opposite swivel castors on one end of the bottom edge, and a second pair of opposite swivel castors on an opposite end of the bottom edge. Abstract: A replacement handle is disclosed that may be retrofit for use on conventional suitcases, attache cases and the like having conventional posts, links and the like formed thereon. The handle includes a body portion having a pair of opposite ends. Formed on the opposite ends are respective tails. The tails have teeth formed thereon. Formed in each of the opposite ends are respective "one-way" openings. Once a handle is removed from the conventional case, the tails may be wrapped or looped around the conventional posts, links and the like and then the portion of the tails having the teeth formed thereon may be inserted into the respective openings where they are maintained for use therewith.
