  • Patent number: 5253739
Abstract: A "flight bag" style carry-on bag incorporates a pair of wheels positioned at a bottom corner of the bag and spaced along the width dimension of the bag. A pull handle is integrated with the bag, and preferably both the pull handle and the wheels are attached to an internal support structure such as a bottom pan. The wheels have an exterior surface presenting an edge upon which the wheels roll at the furtherest spaced apart locations to increase the width of lateral support provided by the wheels. The pull handle assembly includes at least one rod moving in a channel with a slider member connected to the rods to effectively transmit torque between a grip connected to the rod and the internal support structure.

  • Patent number: 5240106
Abstract: A camera bag having a substantially rigid rectilinear well with a plurality of rigid bins disposed therein. The bins are mounted for rotation about horizontal axes disposed toward the front of the bag and may be selectively rotated between a home position in which they fit in the interior of the bag and an open position at which their contents may be easily accessed. Apparatus for maintaining the bins and both their open and home position is disclosed. A retractable U-shaped handle having telescoping rods is used to pull the bag on a pair of wheels when desired. The telescoping rods become journaled in tubular guides disposed within the interior of the bag. Removable side pockets are particularly designed for carrying lenses and specifically designed to be quickly removed from the sides of the bag and carried on the belt of a user.

  • Patent number: 5184477
Abstract: The portable cart a cooler is made by having a vinyl roller on one of its carry handles. There are two roller handle stops or locks that are in the walls of the cooler body, they are on direct opposite sides from each other. They allow for the locking of the roller handle in position for the carting or towing feature of this invention. The pull or tow handle of the cooler is longer in length than the roller handle to allow user to walk in an upright position and to keep cooler from striking users heels when towing. As stated earlier ordinary portable coolers, ice chests do not have the features of this cart a cooler invention, therefore the cart a cooler could be classified a new and useful improvement over older objects considered to be portable coolers, ice chests.

Abstract: The carrying handle comprises a handle strip and two terminal legs, which are articulated to the narrow side of the container. The legs are subdivided into two portions, which are interconnected by means of an intermediate joint. The articulation axis of the intermediate joint and of the container side joint are parallel to the handle strip. The leg portions are bent in the inoperative position of the carrying handle, so that they come to rest parallel to one another. Thus, the legs are shortened in the inoperative position, so that they do not project over the outer edges, particularly in the case of narrow containers and are instead located within the predetermined dimensions.

The stay (23) is of resilient flexible material. • Patent number: 4828081
Abstract: Various systems have been proposed for providing personal identification information in conjunction with luggage pieces. Recently there has been concern that such personal identifying information should not be broadly or notoriously displayed. Thus, I.D. tags having a flap covering this personal identification information have been offered to the public. Information on such tags still can be relatively easily viewed, and the tags can become lost or pulled off of the luggage through ordinary baggage handling. The disclosed system includes an identification panel which is flush with a panel of the luggage and is normally protected by the luggage construction itself, specifically a web tangent to and affixed permanently to the outer covering of that luggage panel. The identification panel includes an elastic member which holds the identification panel against all but determined intentional effort to withdraw the panel from underneath the web.

  • Patent number: 4792025
Abstract: A suitcase is modified to have wheels at the bottom corners of the rear face of the suitcase, a retractable handle with an offset to secure stacked luggage against the offset, and a spring actuated folding shelf which can grip adjacent luggage items. The offset handle can be used for normal lifting when retracted and pulling when extended. Offset allows extension structure to be placed in the rear wall of the suitcase while the handle is placed in the normal central location. The offset also lowers the center of gravity of the combination, especially when other items of luggage are stacked on the extensible handle. The shelf is incorporated into the front wall, and can be folded out and down to support adjacent luggage. The shelf is spring loaded towards the closed (flush with suitcase) position, in order to secure the shelf when not in use and to grip adjacent luggage when the shelf is deployed.

  • Patent number: 4787488
Abstract: A piece of luggage is disclosed which consists of a case in the shape of a flat parallelepiped comprising two greater rigid lateral walls and a rigid quadrangular frame with an upper side provided with a curved handle, a base side and end sides. At least one of its lateral walls is movable, being provided with a rigid perimetral edge which slides telescopically within the frame. Displacement of this lateral wall occurs in a direction perpendicular to its plane between a retracted position in which it is located in the plane of the corresponding edge of the frame and a projecting position. The result is that the internal volume of the case is increased.

  • Patent number: 4782556
Abstract: A handle for a luggage case made of two longitudinal spaced apart rows of heavy cord of twisted material with an outer piece of fabric material folded longitudinally around the two rows and sewn along a longitudinal centerline to form a strap. The cords are centrally located and of a length such that it determines the length of the handle and forms a substantially rigid, padded central portion of the handle. The opposite ends of the formed strap are free of the corded fabric, are slid through attachment loops, and folded under until the ends substantially come together thereby forming a lower and upper layer for the handle. A sleeve is wrapped around the juncture of the ends, and both upper and lower layers are fixed together.

  • Patent number: 4754858
Abstract: A cushioning pad for relieving the strain of carrying luggage, which pad is removable and attachable to a plurality of luggage pieces by means of a pair of stretchable elastic bands provided in the cushioning pad by through holes positioned at each end thereof. The cushioning pad of the present invention can be used on hand-held luggage, as well as luggage using a strap for carrying the luggage over the shoulder, such as garment bags. The stretchable elastic bands are used to not only secure the cushioning pad to the luggage handle or strap, but are also used to join a plurality of luggage pieces using the same cushioning pad. A plurality of hangers contained within one garment bag can also be joined together by one of the pair of elastic bands, with the other one of the pair of elastic bands used to secure the cushioning pad to the handle of the garment bag.

  • Patent number: 4714143
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel handle and panel assembly in a zipper closed portfolio and in particular to an improved internally cushioned handle construction in which the inner seam of the handle is formed by sewing the front and back handle sections together and folding whereby the inner side of the handle presents a stitching line located between inner folded plies which constitute the front and back sides of the handle, respectively, and wherein the cushioning material is provided on the outer side of the handle to provide a soft reinforcement of this soft outer side thereby improving the feel of the handle as it is grasped by the fingers of the hand in carrying the portfolio. The handle is of the type which can be retracted, or moved up and down within the panel. The zipper of the portfolio constitutes the sole entry into a security compartment within the panels on the right and left sides of the portfolio.

  • Patent number: 4703519
Abstract: A sewn polyolefin in fabric bag which uses the molded shapes of the polyolefin material to form a shaped enclosure. Enclosure means and a fabric hinge are sewn directly to the polyolefin enclosure means to form the completed bag. The bags formed in this manner have many of the advantages of both soft and hard shelled bags. The polyolefin material is capable of providing a predetermined shape but has a soft exterior surface and is deformable. Sewing can be done using conventional sewing techniques. Polyolefin materials have not previously been usable in this manner because of their inability to bond or weld in reliable manner to other materials.
