    Abstract: An apparatus for purifying blood has a blood compartment and a clearance compartment separated by a semi-permeable membrane. The apparatus includes a device containing a cation exchange resin charged with metal ions whose phosphates are insoluble in water. Metal salts of iron, aluminium, zirconium, lanthanum, thorium and tin are deposited on a cation exchange material and the charged cation exchange resin is contacted with dialysis liquid. The process of treating blood with the dialysis liquid is also contemplated.

The oil and water are drawn off and conducted to a chamber formed at the lower surface of the conically-shaped chamber upon which the mixture was initially discharged.     Abstract: A system for storing and handling used cooking oils and the like comprises a dump station located adjacent to the kitchen facility in a restuarant for receiving and feeding the used cooking oils through a fill pipe into a remotely located, closed storage container. Heating tubes passing through the fill pipe and the storage container maintain the liquidity of the used cooking oil while moving through the fill pipe and while stored in the container. A pump and control unit is co-located with the storage container for monitoring the temperature of the used oil in the container, and for detecting when the container is filled with the oil so as to provide an indication in the restaurant so that a pump may be energized to thereafter evacuate the storage container.

    Abstract: An electric oil refining apparatus for motor vehicle internal combustion engines designed to remove liquid and solid contaminants from oil which is then recycled. The oil exits from a single small orifice into a vaporization chamber where, due to sudden change of temperature and pressure, the liquid contaminants separate from the oil. The stream of oil is then deflected against a heated concave cup which vaporizes liquid contaminants, and allows oil to flow over the floor of the vaporization chamber and back to the internal combustion engine of the motor vehicle for reuse. A filter is provided at the input to the orifice, thereby avoiding clogging of the orifice.

    Abstract: A purification device for utilizing a gas to purify a liquid, principally useable as an artificial lung, and employs a simple mixing tube so as to assure the mixing of a purification gas with the liquid, with the liquid and gas mixture exiting from the mixing tube into a housing carrying gas separation means in the form of a filter with the purified liquid flowing through the housing in reverse direction to liquid flow in the mixing tube and being collected at one end of the housing while the separated gas is vented from the opposite end of the housing. The housing carries a heat exchange device for maintaining the purified liquid at a predetermined temperature as it exits from the purification device. A pump is provided for pumping the purified liquid from the housing. In order that the housing will not be pumped dry, there is provided a float valve arrangement for controlling flow of the purified liquid out of the housing.

    Abstract: An improved gravitational separator for mixtures of immiscible liquids of different densities, particularly oil and water, includes a reaction member in the form of a dome or diaphragm immersed in more dense liquid to be separated and which floats upwardly in the more dense liquid under the influence of liquid of less density accumulated beneath the dome or diaphragm, and a precise, passive balance means for the reaction member used to sense the accumulation of a predetermined volume of less dense liquid in the separator. The balance means is a system of weight masses contained entirely in the separator that are raised by the upward movement of the reaction member under the influence of accumulated less dense fluid, in combination with remote sensing means outside the separator for sensing the respective balance conditions and signalling appropriate system controls to cause suspension of the influx of mixture into the separator and discharge therefrom of accumulated lighter liquid.

    Abstract: A housing for a bilge pump-filter has a lower part in which oil and like light pollutants are separated from the polluted water. A pump has its intake connected to the lower region of this lower part and its output connected to an upper compartment of a compensation chamber in the upper housing part which is subdivided by a filter into this upper compartment and a lower compartment. A funnel under the filter conducts liquid coming down through the filter by gravity to the lower region of the lower compartment and a drain at the upper region of this lower compartment off the filter water. A level detector in the lower separation chamber operates the pump only when liquid level in this separation chamber is above a predetermined minimum level.

    Abstract: A method of and apparatus for separating from ruminant animal feces the undigested fibrous material that is preponderantly short pieces which consist of bundles of capillary tubes. The feces are mixed with urine, water from animal washing and preparation for milking, and with other water if needed, to form a homogeneous slurry which is run through tandem perforate drum and roller squeezers that heavily compress the short pieces to express liquid from them while continuously draining off a filtrate of liquid and fine solids which is ultimately put into a pond for use as liquid fertilizer. This leaves a filter mass which is preponderantly the short pieces The filter mass is mixed with clean water to form a suspension which is run through tandem perforate cylinder roller pressers that compress the short pieces under several times heavier pressure to produce a cleansed filter mass and a filtrate which is combined with the original slurry.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a portable apparatus and method for purifying lubricating oil in remotely separated devices, such as gearboxes and motors on oil well pumping equipment. The apparatus is mounted on a vehicle, such as a trailer, and has separate tanks thereon for holding volumes of oil. A flexible conduit on the apparatus is provided for selective connection to a device. Pump means are provided for removing the lubrication oil from the device and pumping it into one of the tanks on the apparatus. A liquid heater is provided in the apparatus for selective connection to the tanks. Appropriate valve and pump means are associated with the heater for use in circulating the oil through the heater to raise the temperature to between 150.degree. and 175.degree. F. A filtering apparatus is provided with appropriate valves and pump means for cleaning the heated oil.
