  • Publication number: 20100176054
Abstract: A process removes or eliminates altogether accumulations of solid and semi-solid, water immiscible materials adhering to walls, and equipment, particularly near the high liquid mark, in tanks of waste liquid lift stations. Compressed gas is used to generate large bubble masses of six inches to several feet in diameter within the waste liquid. As these large bubble masses rise through the liquid in the tank, convection currents generated by the rising bubbles agitate and loosen pieces of accumulations adhering to the tank and lift station equipment, resulting in a slurry of waste liquid and immiscible materials which can then be pumped from the tank by lift station equipment for further processing. In some embodiments, continuous or frequent periodic generation of the large bubble masses prevents the accumulation of such materials altogether.

  • Patent number: 7749393
Abstract: A method and device for blood treatments that use fluids such as dialysate and replacement fluid for renal replacement therapy. In an embodiment, fluid is passed either by pump or passively by gravity feed, through a microporous sterilization filter from a fluid source to a replacement fluid container. The latter forms a batch that may be used during treatment. The advantage of forming the batch before treatment is that the rate of filtering needn't match the rate of consumption during treatment. As a result, the sterilization filter can have a small capacity. In another embodiment, a filter is placed immediately prior to the point at which the sterile fluid is consumed by the treatment process. The latter may be used in combination with the former embodiment as a last-chance guarantee of sterility and/or that the fluid is free of air bubbles. It may also be used as the primary means of sterile-filtration.

  • Patent number: 7743928
Abstract: A passive self energized, liquid device operates entirely on capillary action. A microfilter fractionates nanoliter volumes of suspension such as whole blood into suspended particles or cells and liquid fractions. Blood, for example, is fractionated with minimal cell lysis, and the filtrate (plasma) flux is dependent upon design parameters similar to factors controlling blood filtration in microporous membranes, i.e. active filter area, fluid velocity and microfilter geometry. Weir-style filters communicate with a blood flow channel to separate plasma from blood moving by capillary action. An expanded downstream channel with multiple parallel capillary blood flow path provides continuing movement of blood past the filters. Lysing is controlled by the size of the filter pores and the duration of adherence of the red blood cells to the pores. The controlled lysis or prevention of lysis of red blood cells is accomplished by manipulating the significant capillary forces generated in the filters.

The device also comprises a second surface (13) for receiving output from the outlets. A relative movement between the three or more neighbouring outlets (11) and the second surface (13) can be applied in a first direction and second direction, the second direction being substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The second surface (13) thereby is facing the first plane wherein the outlets are positioned. The device furthermore comprises a voltage source (9) adapted to apply a potential difference between the first surface and the second surface. It furthermore may comprise a recipient for containing a solution or melt to be electrospun from the outlets and comprises a providing means for providing (10) the solution or melt to the outlets.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a slurry reactor system suitable for continuous multiphase reaction/separation, as well as a method for continuous reaction/separation of a multiphase reaction in a slurry reactor system. The system includes a reaction vessel, a separation device that includes a separation chamber and a filter element, and an agitation device. The filter element includes a filter, which is in contact with a slurry in the reaction vessel and on the surface of which a solid material from the slurry forms a filter cake in the reaction vessel. The agitation device generates a flow of the slurry in the reaction vessel. A flux of a liquid product from the slurry in the reaction vessel across the filter and into the separation chamber is maintained at a substantially constant level for long term continuous reaction/separation without interruption.

Abstract: A process and a device for treating and upgrading raw manure. The method and the device comprise steps which consist in promoting agglomeration of solid constituents of the manure and precipitating the agglomerated particles by using a sedimentation agent. More particularly, the sedimentation agent used is based on natural stone and/or industrial derivative dusts. Sedimentation of the agglomerated particles enables the solid phase and the liquid phase to be separately treated, leading eventually to the production of a solid fertilizer, a liquid fertilizer and water corresponding to environmental standards and capable of being released into the environment or simply recycled.
