  • Patent number: 9095923
Abstract: A method of welding alloys having a ductility drop temperature range to limit strain-age cracking. The method involves the use of a welding device to weld a weld area of an article while maintaining temperatures throughout the weld area and a heat affected zone adjacent the weld area within a non-crack sensitive temperature range that is above a ductility drop temperature range of the alloy being welded. During welding, the temperatures of the weld area and the heat affected zone are predominantly controlled with heat input from the welding device. Once the welding has been terminated, the weld area and the heat affected zone are cooled from the non-crack sensitive temperature range through the ductility drop temperature range to a temperature below the ductility drop temperature range of the alloy.

Abstract: A structural member having an internal geometry capable of receive an object and substantially seamless outer surfaces, and that is obtainable by a method that includes providing several small plates, welding together the small plates, removing the weld residue, and polishing an outer surface of the structural member to achieve a certain desired visual effect. A middle plate, or several middle plates, may be positioned between a first plate and a second plate. The middle portion occupied by the middle plates includes an opening, cavity, and/or channel. The opening, cavity, and/or channel may receive a cable from an electronic device, or house a component. The plates and the opening, cavity, and/or channels between the plates, generally have a small form factor, and accordingly, require an assembly process to create the opening, cavity, and/or channels rather than using traditional drilling and/or milling techniques.

Abstract: A steel strip is formed into a cylinder so that opposite ends of the steel strip face each other, while continuously conveying the steel strip. The opposite ends are melted across the entire thickness by irradiating the opposite ends with a high-energy-density beam while applying a pressure with squeeze rolls. A seam is formed by joining the opposite ends, and excess weld metal of the seam on the outer and inner sides of the obtained welded steel pipe is removed by cutting. A repaired seam is then formed by remelting and solidifying a region on the inner side of the welded steel pipe, the region having a depth of 0.5 mm or more from the surface and a width of double or more the width of the seam, and in addition, the center line of the seam is made to coincide with the center line of the repaired seam.

Abstract: A gap is provided at joining faces of a pair of metal works with an uneven shape when the metal works contact one another for joining. An adhesive agent having a chain-reacting curing reaction function is disposed within the gap. The adhesive agent is cured by an autogenously-generated curing reaction heat caused by an outer energy and an additional heat that is successively generated by the autogenously-generated curing reaction heat within the adhesive agent. A welding portion, where the works contact one another substantially directly, is welded by a laser beam, and the above-described energy for causing the autogenously-generated curing reaction heat for the adhesive agent is provided by the laser beam. Accordingly, a joining structure and method of metal works that can have less limitation in a joining location is provided.

Abstract: A low-power laser and arc hybrid welding method includes the steps of matching laser pulses with arc phases, and inducing compress arcs by the laser pulses. A laser peak pulse is triggered from half of the positive half-wave to half of the negative half-wave of alternating arc current. The sum of laser peak pulse width and laser basic pulse width is equal to the time width from a laser pulse triggered point to a negative half-wave end point of the alternating arc current. A welding device for carrying out the method is disclosed. An angle formed by the axis of a laser beam (1) and the vertical direction is in the range of ?50°-50°. An angle formed by the axis of the laser beam (1) and the axis of an arc torch (2) is in the range of 20°-120°. Arc power density is adjusted minutely in the range of 103-105 by adjusting the alternating arc current, protrusion quantity of an electrode (3) and gas flow velocity of a nozzle. The method and the device can reduce the consumption and save the cost.
