Publication number: 20130284742Abstract: An easy open lid that comprises a top plate, a score line, a tongue, a rivet, a deboss, a tab, a top score line and a pull-strip. On the top plate there is a score line to surround the periphery of the tongue. But the score line does not close and remains open for a portion. Thus, an opening is formed when the tab is pulled for the tongue to rupture the score line. The open end of the tongue extends with a pull-strip that has a deboss. Similarly, there is a top score line to surround the periphery of the pull-strip. There is a tab on the top of the tongue and fixed by a rivet. When the tongue ruptures the score line to form an opening, the tab is pulled for the pull-strip to rupture the top score line.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2012Publication date: October 31, 2013Inventor: Alan Jung

Patent number: 8146768Abstract: A container has a selectively openable panel defined at least in part by a frangible score groove in a surface of the container. The frangible score groove is selectively fracturable by a lifting action administered by a user to a secured to the container. The tab has a nose portion separated from a lift end by a central webbing. The central webbing has a hinge region and a rivet island. The rivet island is at least partially surrounded by a first void region. The central webbing also has a grab portion at the lift end of the tab. The grab portion has an enclosed region defining a billboard surface. The billboard surface has a top side and a bottom side opposite the top side. A bead created by displacing the material of the central webbing is located on the billboard surface. A pigment-carrying layer covers at least a portion of the billboard surface. A tactile indicium is located on the billboard surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2009Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Rexam Beverage Can CompanyInventors: Randall G. Forrest, Timothy L. Patent number: 8127961Abstract: A container comprising a base (12) and lid (14) each formed of sheet plastic, wherein after food is loaded into a base cavity (20) and the lid is closed, the lid resists opening. To open the lid, a move-away tab (64) lying along the base rim portion (30) is moved by tearing along at least one line (70) so a lid rim part (50) is exposed and can be grasped to lift the lid. The base has an outer raised rib (32) that blocks access to the lid rim part until the tab, which lies between two gaps (62, 63) in the outer rib, is moved out of the way. The base also has an inner raised rib (34) that projects into a groove (46) in the lid to form a seal.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2008Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: PWP IndustriesInventor: Terry Vovan

Publication number: 20120048870Abstract: A beverage container has a tab member rotatably and pivotally mounted thereon. The tab member can be used to form two separate openings in the can top, and each opening can be used either independently or together. One opening is the main drink opening, and the other opening is designed to receive a straw. While the primary use for the second opening is to receive a straw, the second opening may also serve as a built in vent when the main drink opening is used.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2011Publication date: March 1, 2012Inventors: Harry LaCoste Ellerbe, III, Bryan Dwight Finch

Publication number: 20120031056Abstract: The present invention relates to an opening device for a beverage container. More specifically, the invention relates to a metal end closure having a primary opening area and at least one optional secondary vent opening which can be opened with the same pull tab. The primary opening area of the metal end closure may be opened by utilizing a pull tab interconnected to a central panel, the pull tab being adapted for applying a downward force to form a first opening. Subsequently, the pull tab is rotated and the tail end lifted to form a second opening in the end closure.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2010Publication date: February 9, 2012Applicant: Ball CorporationInventors: Howard C. Patent number: 8109406Abstract: A beverage container includes a can body having a side wall, a neck portion of reduced diameter, a closure lid and an anchor structure on the closure lid. The anchor structure is offset with respect to the center of the lid. A pull tab has a mounting hole which fits onto the anchor structure. One end of the pull tab has a grip handle, and the other end has a puncturing nose. The pull tab is turnable on the anchor structure, and thus also turnable with respect to the closure lid. The pull tab is of a length whereby it normally just fits between the opposite locations of a peripheral groove on the closure lid. The pull tab can be manually turned from a first position overlying the closure lid, to a second position wherein it overhangs one part of the peripheral groove. The construction thus provides an extended handle length to permit the user to more easily grasp and raise the pull tab, and open the container, for use.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2007Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Inventor: Charles Chang
