  • Patent number: 5788123
Abstract: A dispenser for paste compositions is formed of a housing having an inside wall formed about a longitudinal axis for containing said compositions and being open at one end. A piston is arranged to move axially within the housing to urge the compositions towards the open end. A locking mechanism supports the piston within the housing against the inside wall and prevents the piston from moving in a direction opposite to a dispensing direction. A head part is arranged at the open end of the housing for displacement of a portion of the composition to be dispensed. A push button is arranged laterally next to the head part for pressing against and deflecting at least a part of the head part The head part has a centrally arranged closing valve formed with a valve body, the valve being opened and closed upon the activation of the push button. A connecting rod passes axially through the housing and is held by a holder positioned in a guide cylinder of the valve body with very little axial free play.

Abstract: An applicator has a ratchet mechanism for dispensing material from a single or multiple barrel container. The ratchet mechanism includes a clutch that substantially prevents movement of a plunger of the applicator whenever a resistance to plunger movement is greater than a certain value. As a consequence, bursting of the container, or damage to components of the applicator, is substantially avoided. A resilient, integral pawl hinders unintentional rearward movement of the plunger and provides for a compact construction especially suitable for use in dispensing dental material.

Abstract: The mechanism consists of a crankshaft and connecting rods driving two rods which extend through the full length of the cylinder of the taper. The rods reciprocate 180.degree. out of phase with each other and pass through a piston assembly. Clutch mechanisms in the piston assembly engage when the rods are moving toward the head assembly and do not engage for the opposite motion. As a result the piston assembly advances toward the head assembly an increment of motion each time one of the rods moves in that direction. A mechanism in the piston assembly engages the head end of the cylinder as the piston assembly approaches the head end and prevents the clutches from engaging so that the piston assembly does not jam against the head end of the cylinder. Also, mechanism is provided to disengage both clutches and keep them disengaged so that the piston assembly is free to move as the cylinder is being filled. This mechanism involves rotating the rods to drive cams which engage the clutches to hold them disengaged.

  • Patent number: 5419458
Abstract: A water gun has a housing and a cylinder mounted on the housing, with the cylinder being formed with an opening and defining a chamber. A piston is slidably disposed in the chamber and is spring biased to a fired position, wherein the piston is adjacent the opening. A reservoir is also mounted on the housing. A cocking member is movably mounted on the housing, and the cocking member can be manipulated to move the piston to a load position, wherein the piston is distanced from the opening of the cylinder and water from the reservoir can enter the chamber. Also, a firing mechanism is provided for releasing the piston to permit it to rapidly return to the fired position and thereby emit water from the chamber through the opening in a burst pattern, and to give an audible and tactile indication of water emission.

  • Patent number: 5400925
Abstract: A device for dispensing a predetermined amount of fluid material from chambers within a cartridge. This device includes a housing, a trigger pivotably connected to the housing and a plunger having teeth on a top side thereof entering the housing and passing through an upper part of the trigger. A ratchet is attached to the upper part of the trigger and engaged between the plunger teeth. When force is applied to the trigger, the ratchet is pushed forward, causing the plunger to also move forward, dispensing the contents of each of the chambers within the cartridge. When the trigger is released, the ratchet moves backward causing the plunger to move with the ratchet. The plunger moves backward a short distance until the force applied by the ratchet is overcome through frictional engagement between the plunger and a frictional brake mounted on the housing, at that point the ratchet slides over the next tooth behind it on top of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5392956
Abstract: A method for the advance of two or more rods against a resistance, as it is typically required in dispensing appliances for multiple component dispensing cartridges, consists in that thrust rods are seized by clamping levers in a traveller and then are advanced along with the traveller. The thrust rods extend through guides in traveller on both sides of the respective clamping lever as well as through a bore in the clamping lever. By a transmission of the advancing motion to the clamping levers, which is offset with respect to the bore, the latter are pivoted perpendicularly to the bore, whereby the thrust rods are clamped in the bores and are driven along. The clamping levers are arranged in such a manner that the torsional moments of the clamping action are essentially equal and opposed, whereby no torsional moment acts upon the traveller as a whole.

  • Patent number: 5386931
Abstract: A material dispensing tool has restraining and rear walls spaced apart to receive a material cartridge therebetween, and has an elongated rod supporting a plunger for movement between the walls and within the cartridge. A power ratchet mounted rearwardly of the rear wall over the elongated rod incrementally moves the elongated rod. Linkage including a spring concentrically arranged on the elongated rod effectively couples the power ratchet relative to the restraining wall, whereby the elongated rod can be resiliently biased by the strained spring. Output movement of the elongated rod relative to the power ratchet can thus be substantially independently of the plunger movement relative to the cartridge, the strained spring generating nearly uniform resilient plunger forces to discharge material from the cartridge.
