  • Patent number: 4552288
Abstract: A sealing cap is provided for use in conjunction with safety storage containers and the like, which provides automatic venting and relief of interior vacuum, including low interior pressure resulting from contraction of the contents of the storage container, and from removal of liquid contents from the container. The cap provides a secure closure for a first opening in the container through which contents may be added or removed, while simultaneously providing the aforedescribed venting function. Incorporation of the present invention with a storage container having a second fluid dispensing opening avoids the necessity of providing an alternate or specialized air vent to admit air and prevent a vacuum build-up during dispensing of the contents. In one embodiment, the device is particularly immune to the effect of corrosive fluids stored within the container.

  • Patent number: 4489864
Abstract: A tubular container is provided with a top end punch-out closure comprising a one-piece plastic cap and a rotor on the cap. A punch-out tab defined by a tearing web on the cap can be forced by finger pressure to hinge down from the cap to form a dispensing opening that is aligned with the major dispensing opening on the rotor at the fully open dispensing condition of the rotor. The side of the tab opening opposite the hinge has an arcuate edge that is substantially congruent with a corresponding arcuate edge of the major dispensing opening when the closure is fully open, with the radius of the latter being slightly smaller than the radius of the former to maintain an interference fit if the tab breaks off. The substantially congruent arcuate shapes allow exertion of downward compressive finger pressure at a location sufficiently close to the tearing web to indirectly apply tensile pressure with sufficient concentration to rupture the web.

  • Patent number: 4310105
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure consisting of a one-piece molding of resilient material that comprises an inverted cup-shaped cap having a central dispensing opening and a saucer shaped lid that is integrally hinged to the cap at one edge thereof for movement to and from an inverted, closing position closely over-lying the cap. The lid has an element which closes the dispensing opening and engages in telescoping relationship therewith. The cap and lid have overlapping catch means for retaining the lid in closing position. In the closing position, no part of the lid extends beyond the margin of the cap so there is nothing which a small child can grasp in order to swing the lid to gain access to the content material. The hinge is double acting and provides not only for angular movement to and from the closing position but also for lateral movement of the lid relative to the cap against the resilience of the engaged element and opening for disengaging the catch means.

  • Patent number: 4298146
Abstract: A one-piece dispensing closure consists of a cup-shaped cap having means for retaining it on the neck of a container and a lid which is connected by an integral hinge to the cap at one edge thereof and which is adapted to be swung over on top of the cap There are openings through the top of the cap and through the lid, one of which is closed by a stopper element when the lid is swung over and pressed down into closed position against the top of the cap. The relative positions and sizes of the opening in the lid and the stopper element are such that the stopper is withdrawn from the opening when the lid is lifted angularly a short distance to open position by raising the edge of the lid opposite the hinge connection. The cap and lid have cooperating means for limiting the normal, upward, angular movement of the lid away from closed position to open position.

  • Patent number: 4247021
Abstract: A demountable bottom opening, foldable and reusable container for finely divided materials such as chopped glass fiber strands and other bulk, flowable materials is disclosed. The container is adapted to be mounted on a permanent pallet of great rigidity. The pallet is comprised of a skeletal base frame on which is mounted a shallow crown which receives and supports the container. The crown surrounds a central opening which is closed by hinged hexagonally-shaped flaps locked in position when the loaded containers are stored or transported. The flaps are unlocked to swing down to the sides of the opening so that they do not interfere with unloading of the container thereby insuring complete emptying. The use of an impervious foldable sleeve extending from the opening in the container and which unfolds to serve as a funnel through which the material is unloaded into a hopper beneath the pallet is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4236656
Abstract: A method is disclosed for molding lids for containers of the kind of those intended for holding tiny articles such as dragees, pills, tablets and the like. The lid is molded with the drawer which is intended for masking and ummasking an article-dispensing port, in a position which is different from the normal operative position of the drawer, so as to exploit the resiliency of the plastics material for having the drawer preloaded and causing it to press against the article-dispensing port when the latter is masked by the drawer. A small force is only required to lift the drawer and to swing it so as to unmask the article-dispensing port.

  • Patent number: 4209114
Abstract: It is known to manufacture closure structures so that each of such structures has a cap part including two spaced, aligned bearings and a movable part extending between the bearings and including trunnions fitting within the bearings. At least one of the parts of such closure structures is formed of a material which is sufficiently resilient so that the trunnions may be snapped into the bearings during the assembly of the closure structure. Such a closure structure may be improved so as to reduce damage to one or both of the parts during the manufacture of such a closure structure by shaping the trunnions and the bearings so that they both have shapes of surfaces of revolution which decrease in diameter in accordance with the distance from the portion of the movable part fitting within and between the spaced bearings. The entrances employed should also decrease in width in a corresponding manner.
