Abstract: The invention relates to a method for connecting at least two heat exchanger plates so as to form a plate packet for a heat exchanger, said plate packet being provided with at least one passage defined by through holes in the heat exchanger plates. With the aid of this method, the heat exchanger plates are to be braced well to one another so that high-quality welding seams having a high strength can be produced. To this end, the invention suggests that two respective heat exchanger plates should be clamped together in the proximity of the edge of the future through hole, and that the respective heat exchanger plates should be welded to one another in pairs with at least one circumferentially extending welding seam marking the edge of the future through hole, the diameter of at least one circumferentially extending welding seam being at least as large as the diameter of the future through hole, and that the through hole should subsequently be cut out of the heat exchanger plates that have been welded together.

A stream of pressurized combustion gases is thrust through these central gas orifices to produce a hollow, non collapsible fiber of irregular shape. Molten glass A is introduced from the bottom of the spinner, and molten glass B is introduced above an uppermost flange and by means of centrifugal force, the two glasses A and B are forced upwardly and downwardly, respectively, into fiberizing centers.

Abstract: A permanent magnet rotor construction technique resulting in a rotor having excellent stiffness characteristics and being capable of higher speeds and longer lengths is disclosed. The rotor is constructed using nonfusion bonding techniques whereby an inner cylinder of magnetizable material is bonded inside a hollow outer cylinder of non-magnetizable material, with the resulting assembly having cylindrical end pieces also of non-magnetizable material bonded at each end. Pockets for receiving the rare earth permanent magents are then machined through the outer cylinder, and the magnets are mounted in the pockets in contact with the magnetizable material of the inner cylinder. Construction of the rotor is completed by installing a thin cylindrical shell over the permanent magnets in the areas of the rotor adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 4609138
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved method of manufacturing injection molding manifolds for multicavity molding. The method includes gun drilling a longitudinal duct through a steel manifold body, drilling a transverse inlet duct to connect to an inlet on one surface of the manifold, and drilling diagonal outlet ducts to connect to spaced outlets on the opposite surface of the manifold. The outlet ducts are smaller in diameter than the longitudinal duct to match the rest of the system. Before the outlet ducts are drilled, end portions of the longitudinal duct are drilled out to a larger diameter and steel plugs having a tapered well are securely welded into them with the mouth of the well in alignment with the longitudinal duct. The plugs are larger in diameter than the central portion of the longitudinal duct to avoid the formation of thin knife edge portions where the outlet ducts join the longitudinal duct which often break down during use.

Abstract: In accordance with a preferred embodiment, a monolith extrusion die is formed by separately drilling matching feed holes for extruded material in each of two plates. In one plate the feed holes are shallow and carefully drilled for accurate alignment with the extrusion slots of the die. In the other plate, the holes are accurately located at the drill entry point, but thereafter rapidly drilled without regard to drift. The plates are then bonded together to form my die.Other methods of forming an extrusion die using two plates are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4471899
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the object of providing an advantageous manufacturing method for a machine hollow cylinder subjected to high working pressure and pronounced erosion action, especially those used for plastic processing machines. To that end a preferably cylindrical-shaped blank composed of a high-wear resistant, hardenable and corrosion-resistant steel core and a sleeve formed of structural steel, is shaped by forging or hot rolling while forming a metallic bond between core and sleeve and a reduction in the cross-sectional area of the core material by at least 20%. Then by applying a bore while taking into account the machining clearance there is formed the hollow cylinder, there is accomplished the hardening which is accommodated to the core material, and there is undertaken the machining for obtaining the desired final dimension.

A second strip of metal has a second thickness, is narrower in width than the first strip, and coextends longitudinally with the first strip of metal. The first and second strips of metal are intimately bonded in direct metal-to-metal contact without the use of a welding or brazing material. The multi-gauge strip has a first portion extending the given length with a third thickness substantially equal to the sum of the first and second thicknesses and a second portion of substantially constant width extending the given length having a fourth thickness substantially equal to the first thickness.

  • Patent number: 4295595
Abstract: In order to provide a method of producing magnetron anode at a good mass-produceability, according to the invention, so-called straight type steel cylinder blank the inner peripheral surface of which is not tapered is used and, at the same time, the step of quench-hardening of the steel cylinder blank is omitted. After fitting a copper block to the inside of the straight type steel cylinder blank which has not been quenched, both members are compacted to each other. Then, a press working is effected on the copper blank such that the steel cylinder blank and a back-up punch are forced to move relatively to each other, when a press-working shaping punch is forced into the copper block, thereby to form a copper anode. In order to avoid the bursting of the steel cylinder blank, the press work on the copper block is effected at a temperature of 200.degree. to 650.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4188700
Abstract: The cylindrical rotating grate of an attrition mill is constructed by welding a group of bars in close spaced parallel relationship, and then rolling this assembly into a cylindrical configuration. The meeting ends of this configuration are then welded, and an opening is preferably cut from the rolled assembly. The area cut out in the process of forming the opening is used as a cover. The grate structure includes solid abutments interengageable with the cover to hold the cover in position against the large forces encountered during the operation of the mill, with relatively light securing means adapted to hold the cover in engagement with these abutments. A housing surrounding the rotating grate is provided with an opening through which the machine is charged with material, and this opening is covered by a curtain preferably provided with battens and a weight to hold it in position. A vacuum is applied to the interior housing for the removal of dust, which assists in holding the curtain in position.
