Patent number: 4606494Abstract: A disc separator includes discs welded to a hub. Each disc has an extruded collar disposed around a central aperture through which the hub extends. The collar provides bending rigidity to the disc and is interposed between the disc and hub to insulate the disc from thermal stresses caused by welding. The hub has an open seam and an initial diameter less than the diameter of the central aperture of the discs. The discs are assembled on the hub by sliding each of them to a predetermined position on the hub, expanding the hub, welding the collar to the hub, and relaxing the hub. The steps are repeated until a plurality of discs are securely welded to the hub to form a disc assembly.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1986Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Inventor: Franz Kroell

Patent number: 4230254Abstract: A modular truck body comprises unitary first and second modules having bottom sections thereof secured together at a separation line which is substantially offset laterally from a longitudinal axis of the truck body. The width of the first module is thus substantially larger than the width of the second module. The modules are aligned and preassembled at a manufacturing plant by releasably securing them together at the separation line therebetween. The modules are then disassembled and shipped to a remote job site or the like for final reassembly and securance of the modules together.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventor: Bernard E. Patent number: 4229638Abstract: A rotary rock bit is formed from at least two individual segments. The individual segments are positioned together and aligned in the proper position for the final assembled bit. The seams between the individual segments are in the form of square-butt type joints and the adjoining segments have surface areas that are in abutting relationship to each other. A beam of energy such as an electron beam or a laser beam is directed into the seams. Relative movement between the beam and segments of the bit causes the beam to traverse the seams and join said individual segments together throughout substantially all of said abutting surface areas.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1975Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Carl L. Patent number: 4228943Abstract: A tube settler improves separation performance by dividing flow path of a fluid to be treated into a multiplicity of tubular passages to achieve fluid stream commutation and to reduce the distance which a suspended particle has to fall increasing a settling area. A critical upward-flow rate for avoiding obstructions to precipitation of the suspended particle without turbulence depends on the cross-sectional configuration of the tubular passage. A tubular passage of triangular, circular, hexagonal or rhombic configuration is disadvantageous because the height or distance from top to bottom differs from part to part across the vertical section of the passage. This invention provides a tube settler or multitube separator having a tube-nest assembly for passing the fluid to be treated therethrough. And, inclined tubular passages of the tube settler are an approximate boomerang cross-section.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1978Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Shinko-Pfaudler Company, Ltd.Inventors: Kaichi Tanabe, Shigeto Koga, Yoshinori Maeda
