  • Patent number: 10244180
Abstract: An imaging reader has near and far imagers for imaging illuminated targets to be read over a range of working distances. A range finder determines a distance to a target. A default imager captures a minor portion of an image of the target, and rapidly determines its light intensity level. At least one of the imagers is selected based on the determined distance and/or the determined light intensity level. The exposure and/or gain of the selected imager is set to a predetermined value, and an illumination level is determined, also based on the determined light intensity level and/or the determined distance. The selected imager, which has been set with the predetermined value, captures an image of the target, which has been illuminated at the illumination light level.

  • Patent number: 10223564
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an attachment for a smartphone. The smartphone may include i) a camera with an image sensor and a focusing lens located on a back side of the smartphone for capturing an image of a target area; and ii) a white light source on the back side of the smartphone. The attachment may include a targeting optic system. When the attachment is secured to the back side of the smartphone, the targeting optic system may receive illumination emitted by the white light source and direct the illumination towards the target area from a location that is not directly in front of the camera's image sensor. The location may be farther from the focusing lens than the white light source when measured parallel to the back side of the smartphone. The attachment may also direct the illumination into the target area via the targeting optic system.

  • Patent number: 10216840
Abstract: Various of the disclosed embodiments concern computer systems, methods, and programs for extracting information from an asset tag that can be used to monitor the corresponding asset. An operator, e.g., employee of an enterprise, logs into an application executed by a mobile device that includes a camera. A tag template can then be manually selected by the operator or automatically selected by the application. The tag template is used during scanning to locate and identify machine-readable elements, human-readable elements, structural elements, or some combination thereof. Once the application registers a successful scan of the asset tag, the operator can review and confirm the information was extracted correctly. Generally, the extracted information is transmitted to an asset management system, which creates a database entry that allows the asset to be continually monitored by the enterprise, e.g., each time the asset tag is subsequently scanned.

Abstract: An image recognition system includes an imaging device and a processor. The processor is configured to detect an image of an article within an image captured by the imaging device, in response to detection of the image of the article, start a code detection process and an image recognition process to select one or more candidates. When the code symbol is detected within a predetermined period of time after the code detection process is started, the processor decodes the code symbol and determines an article associated with the decoded code symbol as the article within the captured image. When the code symbol is not detected within the predetermined period of time, and said one or more candidates are selected within the predetermined period of time, processor determines one of said one or more candidates as the article within the captured image.
