Comminuting Elements Patents (Class 241/291)
  • Patent number: 4739937
Abstract: Apparatus for conditioning a granular material having a centrifugal throwing wheel for projecting the material radially against an impact surface member which completely surrounds and is spaced from the periphery of the wheel and includes an impact plate and ricochet plates. The impact plate is provided with generally radially disposed baffles with sides of adjacent baffles guiding and channeling the stream of material. The baffles are triangular in cross section with a forwardly facing side sloping at a lesser angle than the other side. The general course of granular material is downwardly through the apparatus and to retard this flow and thereby promote separation of granular material from fines, bed baffles which entrap and hold granular material are provided within the apparatus. Apparatus is provided for introducing a stream of air into the apparatus for transverse flow across the retarded downward stream of granulated material to effect separation of fines.

  • Patent number: 4714207
Abstract: An impact bar - adapted to assume an installed state in which it is mounted in a rotor of a comminuting machine - has a length extending generally radially as viewed relative to the rotary axis, a leading side and a trailing side as viewed relative to a direction of rotation, and a cross-sectional area taken along a sectional plane extending parallel to a plane of rotation. The cross-sectional area is curved in a generally C shape open towards the leading side and is symmetrical relative to a symmetry plane being generally perpendicular to the bar length. The cross-sectional area has a constriction lying in the symmetry plane. The trailing side is adapted to be supported against tangential forces at a location situated radially outwardly of the constriction as viewed relative to the rotary axis. The constriction is formed by a first and a second groove at the leading and trailing side.

  • Patent number: 4702422
Abstract: Two interacting stacks of peripheral overlapping shredding members of disk form are mounted on substantially parallel shafts and positioned transversely to the direction of waste material passing through a comminutor casing. The casing opens upstream and downstream side for introducing liquid borne waste to the chamber and for discharging the comminuted waste therefrom after shredding, respectively. The casing is closed off by a pair of imperforate side rails, each side rail is slotted to form a series of inwardly projecting planar fingers having front edges of circular arc form facing the periphery of the rotating cutting element disks and having a radius larger than the radius of the disks and being spaced slightly therefrom. The array of fingers extend over the complete height of the stack shredding members. This facilitates greater flow of the liquid through the comminution chamber via slots between the fingers, carrying fine solids to enhance comminution.

  • Patent number: 4324367
Abstract: This relates to a device for crushing sand lumps. The device includes a tub which is resiliently mounted and is provided with means for vibrating the same in a generally vertical direction parallel to a rear wall of the tub. The tub rear wall is hollow and is provided on the inner face with perforated crusher plates. Sand flow through the crusher plates is down through the hollow rear wall and there is an upwardly directed airwash for the falling sand. The lower portion of the rear wall is in the form of a door mounted for swinging movement about a horizontal axis. The door is operated by a cylinder having an axis parallel to the direction of vibration and the door is opened during the vibration of the tub so as to direct scrap and uncrushed lumps out through the lower portion of the rear wall in the same direction of salvaged sand flow.

  • Patent number: 4090674
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved fixed cutting element for cooperation with a rotary cutting element in an apparatus for comminuting or granulating polymeric and like material. The improved fixed cutting element is a rigid polyhedron of quadrangular cross-section having a top, bottom, front, back and two side faces. Penetrating partially into the polyhedron from the intersection of the top and front faces thereof is a substantially rectangular slot, which extends along the length of the polyhedron from one side face to the other side face thereof. An angle of between about 20.degree. and 70.degree. is formed by the intersection of:(a) the top face of the polyhedron; and(b) a line perpendicular to the longitudinal cross-sectional axis of the slot and passing through the intersection of the top and front faces of the polyhedron. An insert of very hard material, e.g., of ceramic, conforming to the configuration of the slot, is positioned therein and is adhesively bonded to all surfaces thereof.

  • Patent number: 4069982
Abstract: An improved paddle design for use on the beater mechanism of a manure spreader enables the spreader to satisfactoriloy handle a broader range of manure consistencies and to distribute the same over a more uniform and wide spread pattern. The paddle has a dished or cupped shape, is substantially symmetrical about its centerline, and includes a curved main body portion and integrally formed upper engaging and lower mounting portions. The upper portion has a curved shape similar to the main body portion and is inclined inwardly toward the axis of curvature of the main body portion, thus providing a concave working surface. The lower portion presents a planar surface for mounting the paddle on a beater shaft. The paddle, being symmetrical, can be used on either the left or right sides of a spreader.
