Abstract: An impeller is for separating a conveyed stream of material. The impeller has a central rotatable hub with a plurality of blades extending radially therefrom. The hub and blades form a number of generally wedge-shaped material receiving spaces within the impeller. One set of spaces has a baffle arrangement which is configured to direct material in this set outwardly from the impeller on the upstream side of the baffle arrangement. Another set of spaces has a guide arrangement which is configured to guide the material in this set of spaces outwardly from the impeller on the downstream side of the baffle arrangement. The impeller is particularly useful for separating streams of particulates, such as wood chips, compressed shavings, or the like.

Abstract: A mechanized disc flaker for producing curled wood flakes having a rotatable disc plate, and one or more cutting knives mounted to the disc plate so as to provide for a slight "rake angle" defined in accordance with the invention as the angle made between the tool face and a plane perpendicular to the direction of tool travel. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus includes rotatable and removable knife holders which permit the rake angle and the "cutting angle", defined in accordance with the invention as being the angle the cutting edge of the knife makes with the grain of the wood, to be modified to yield curled wood shavings having different geometries and characteristics. The preferred method of practicing the apparatus involves using a work piece having a certain moisture content which is directed against the work surface of the disc flaker using appropriate pressure all to provide for wood curls of desirable characteristics.

Abstract: A juice-extractor also serving as a grinder suitable for extracting juice from water-containing materials, such as vegetables, fruits, soybeans, and for grinding dry material into powder, such as coffee beans, green beans, nuts. In addition to elements similar to that of a juice-extractor, such as the funnel, the top cover, the lower grinding disc, the meshes-containing filter, the residue collector, the juice flow guider, and the base, the grinder also includes a bag made of air-pervious fabric and a rotational retainer having a closed side wall. When the juice-extractor is to serve as a grinder to grind a dry material into powder, the air-pervious bag is used to replace the residue collector and the rotaional retainer is used to replace the meshes-containing filter, so that powder produced from the grinding can be directly sent into the bag instead of the juice flow guider.

  • Patent number: 5727611
Abstract: A method for adjusting the blade clearance in a disc chipper by moving in the axial direction a bearing bushing of a disc shaft together with the bearing. The axial movement of the shaft is effected by loosening adjusting screws or adjusting nuts of one of the end caps of the axial guide bearing housing and by tightening after this the adjusting screws or adjusting nuts of the other end cap. The cap then pushes the axial guide bushing and the attached shaft in the axial direction by way of a guide projection on the surface of the cap facing towards the bearing. An axial guide bearing system includes a shaft supporting a blade disc of a disc chipper, with the shaft and blade disc being movable relative to a counter blade in an axial direction. The system also includes a bearing housing frame and a bearing fixed to the shaft and movable with respect to the bearing housing frame.

Abstract: An apparatus for comminuting lawn debris comprises an impeller housing defined by a pair of opposed axial end walls and a substantially voluted peripheral wall therebetween and includes inlet openings located on opposite end walls for introducing material into the housing and a discharge opening located on the peripheral wall for discharging material from the housing. The impeller is rotatably mounted on a drive shaft within the housing. The impeller includes a backing plate and a plurality of radially extending blades fixed to one face of the backing plate. The impeller blades cause air to be drawn in from an inlet opening and to be propelled axially into the housing and through the discharge opening. The comminuting blades shred material within the housing thereby reducing the size of the material. A chipper knife is attached to the face of the impeller opposite the blades for chipping material passing into the housing through one of the inlet openings.
