    Abstract: In one embodiment, a take up reel comprises a core having a generally open interior and an outer surface that is adapted to hold a sheet-like material that is wound around the core. Also, the core defines at least one slot. A slider member is slidable within the slot between a home position and an extended position away from the outer surface. In this way, when the sheet-like material is wound around the outer surface of the core when the slider member is in the extended position, the sheet-like material is spaced apart from the core in the region of the slot. Further, when the slider member is moved to the home position, the tension in the wound sheet-like material is reduced to facilitate removal of the core.

    Abstract: A fiber optic cable winding tool having a disk-shaped base with a central axis, and four quarter-circle spools. Each spool has a fiber optic cable contacting surface with a radius of curvature exceeding a minimum bend radius of the fiber optic cable. The tool further includes four radial guides connected to the disk-shaped base for slidably mounting the four spools on the disk-shaped base such that the spools are radially adjustable relative to the central axis of the disk-shaped base. A resilient ring inwardly biases the spools on the radial guides towards the central axis of the disk-shaped base. A moveable wedge-shaped disk engages the spools to permit the spools to be radially adjustable relative to the central axis of the disk-shaped base. The radial guides permit the spools to be radially collapsed towards the central axis of the disk-shaped base after winding the fiber optic cable to permit removal of the fiber optic cable from the spools.

    Abstract: At least two pairs of carrier arms are mounted to a rotary shaft for independent travel axially thereof while being constrained to joint rotation therewith. Each pair of carrier arms are disposed opposite each other axially of the shaft for rotatably holding one web roll therebetween via expansion chucks. An internally screw-threaded sleeve is rotatably mounted to each carrier arm and locked against axial displacement relative to the carrier arm. Rotatably supported on the shaft and extending parallel to its axis, a screw-threaded rod extends through, and is threadedly engaged with, the sleeves on each pair of carrier arms. A reversible electric motor is drivingly coupled to each threaded nut, and an additional similar motor to each threaded rod.
