The apparatus also includes a first higher doped region included in the first region and coupled to the first contact at the first location to improve an electrical coupling between the first contact and the optical waveguide. The first higher doped region has a higher doping concentration than a doping concentration within the optical path.

Abstract: A vertical guide unit is built in modular construction in which a wedge guideway member has raceway grooves cut directly in guideway member while a slider fits over the guideway member for relative movement in a sliding manner. The guideway member has an upper surface extending slantwise with respect to a horizontal lower surface and the raceway grooves are cut slantwise on at least widthwise opposing sides near the upper surface of the guideway member. The slider is recessed at the middle thereof to have widthwise opposing wings to fit over the guideway member for sliding movement. The vertical guide unit is built in between a bed and a table to provide a stage system in which the table is allowed to go up and down as the slider moves in and out relatively to the guideway member.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a supply unit for accommodating medical instruments. A middle part, which is located at an instrument (12) and is equipped with lateral guide surfaces (3), engages a height-adjustable middle part of the supply unit (1) with side cheeks (2) in an accurately fitting manner. So-called end position sensors (4), e.g., photoelectric cells, which send a signal to an evaluating and control unit when the height-adjustable middle part of the supply unit (1) has been moved upward to the extent that pins (14) arranged there are completely accommodated by complementarily designed pin mounts (15) at the middle part of the instrument (12), are provided at the middle part of the supply unit (1). The evaluating and control unit now releases a plug-type connection for the power supply (6, 7), for the data transmission (8, 9) and for the pneumatic supply (10, 11).

For a differentiated adaptation of the machine support to secondary forces, such as oscillating inertial forces, at least one auxiliary module, which is free of the weight of the machine, is connected in parallel to the main support in such a way that as a consequence of the spring rigidity of the auxiliary module, a spring system combination of the main support and of the auxiliary module corresponds to prescribed characteristics of dampening and inherent frequency.

Abstract: A hard disk drive assembly for a portable computer includes a conventional small form factor hard disk drive which is mounted in a rigid housing; the housing is mounted to the portable computer chassis. The hard disk drive itself is shock and vibration protected from the housing by a set of thin shock pads of a shock absorbing material such as a viscoelastic polymer. The pads are e.g., 1 or 2 mm thick, typically no more than 5 mm thick. The pads are each relatively small in surface area and are interposed between all surfaces of the hard disk drive and the opposing surfaces of the housing, thereby suspending the hard disk drive in the housing with shock and vibration protection, without the shock pads themselves occupying a significant volume.

  • Patent number: 6460817
Abstract: A holder for a central processing unit (CPU) is disclosed which includes an adjustable perimeter support frame attachable to the underside of a desk to suspend the CPU therefrom but out of contact with the floor. The frame has four sides, each comprising a female section and a male section slidable therein. Two opposite corners of the frame comprise a pair of female sections connected together to form an L-shaped frame member, the remaining two corners of the frame comprising two male members connected together to provide an L-shaped frame part. The L-shaped male frame sections are slidable within the L-shaped female frame sections so that the length of all of the sides can be readily adjusted to suit the size of the CPU to be supported therein. Locking means fix the position of the movable frame parts when tightened so that the frame tightly grips the CPU. A mounting plate can be slidably mounted on the top of the frame to attach it to the desk undersurface.
