  • Patent number: 6146538
Abstract: The present invention relates to the addition of an alkali salt form or a precipitated alkali salt form of a PESA, polymaleic acid or mixture thereof, which is added, directly and/or indirectly, to an oxidizer, e.g. calcium hypochlorite, to inhibit formation of scale, particularly calcium carbonate scale, when the oxidizer contacts water containing carbonate alkalinity. This provides effective inhibition of calcium carbonate in and on oxidizer feed equipment. Process efficiency is greatly enhanced by selecting, as the limiting factor, the concentration of alkalinity present that can be converted to carbonate ions (the carbonate alkalinity). Optimization of the feedrate of polymer based on the carbonate alkalinity results in effective scale inhibition at an LSI value greater than 3.5.

  • Patent number: 6146465
Abstract: An improved process for clarifying sugar syrup in the flotation system of a sugar making operation. Neutral phosphate-based compounds are added to the flotation system to aid in clarifying the sugar syrup. The use of the neutral phosphate-based compounds will eliminate the use of phosphoric acid and the commensurate need for neutralizing chemical as well as elimination of the tanks for phosphoric acid and neutralizing chemical mixing at field installations.

  • Patent number: 6136219
Abstract: The composition for clarifying a body of water comprises at least an anionic polyacrylamide, aluminum chloral hydrate or aluminum oxide and citric acid combined in amounts sufficient to produce a clarification of a body of water. If necessary, calcium carbonate or calcium sulfate may be included in the composition to neutralize pH in acidic environments for increased effectivity.

  • Patent number: 6135207
Abstract: Solid, slowly dispersible well treatment composites are provided which have a sufficiently high melting point to prevent melting of the composite in hot weather. The composites have a low solubility and high specific gravity compared to prior art treatment agents; thus the composites readily sink in well fluids and slowly release treatment ingredients over time, depending on the downhole conditions. The composites include a nonylphenol ethoxylate having at least about 50 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of nonylphenol and a fatty acid amide having from 16-20 carbon atoms. Preferably, the composites further include a weighting agent and active ingredients selected from the group consisting of corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, bactericides, scale converters, foaming agents, and mixtures thereof.
