Publication number: 20140124982Abstract: A system and method are provided for using magnetic elements to secure thin wires precisely in an injection molding process in a manner that matches a three-dimensional shape of the an injection molded product produced by the injection molding (overmolding) process. The thin wires are substantially immobilized in a manner that is designed to generally overcome the tendency of the thin wires, which have little mechanical strength, to normally deflect during an injection molding process by employing the magnetic forces produced by embedded magnets. Magnets are integrated into either the cavity or core of a mold structure and the thin wires are placed on those magnets to keep the wires in place during an injection molding process that allows the thin wires to be overmolded. A balance of the core and/or cavity of the mold will be formed of a non-magnetic material.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2012Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: PALO ALTO RESEARCH CENTER INCORPORATEDInventors: David JOHNSON, Eric SHRADER

Patent number: 8708684Abstract: In dental crown restoration, a dental shade guide which is selected to match patient's teeth comprises a shade-guide portion and a handle. A molding device for molding the dental shade guide comprises a molding plate having a shade-guide molding portion and a handle-holding groove. The molding plate is closed by a cover. While the handle is held in the handle-holding groove of the molding plate, dental composite resin paste is filled in the shade-guide molding portion and the upper surface of the molding plate is tightly pressed by the inner surface of the cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2011Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Tokuyama Dental CorporationInventors: Makoto Oguri, Hironobu Akizumi

Patent number: 8703279Abstract: Decorated molded article creating a three-dimensional appearance is provided. A decorated molded article 1 has a transparent layer 51 arranged on the front side thereof. A projection layer 11 is arranged partly on the front side of the transparent resin layer 51. A screen layer 31 is formed on the back side of the transparent layer 51. An image projected from the projection layer 11 is produced on the screen layer 31. When the decorated molded article 1 is observed from obliquely above, the projection layer 11 and an image 17 are visually recognized simultaneously. Therefore, the projection layer 11 is recognized as if it were three-dimensional.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2005Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: Nissha Printing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasuhide Fukada, Kumiko Yoshikawa, Nobuyasu Hirobe, Shigeru Hinoshita

Patent number: 8703034Abstract: A process of making a tack-free gel is disclosed comprising the steps of providing a mold defining a mold cavity, the mold cavity comprising a plastic material; pouring or injecting a molten gel having a high molding temperature into the mold cavity; and forming the tack-free gel as a thin layer of plastic of the mold cavity is melted over the gel. The forming step further comprises cooling the gel from the molten state to a solidified state. The melting temperature of the plastic material is lower than the molding temperature of the gel; and the higher the temperature differential, the greater the melting of the plastic material and the thicker the layer of the plastic material on the surface of the gel. The mold may be formed of low-density polyethylene (LDPE).Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2011Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: Applied Medical Resources CorporationInventors: Russell E. Patent number: 8696783Abstract: A method of forming a filter unit comprised of a filter element and an encircling peripheral encasement frame to which the filter element is sealed. The frame is moulded in situ by solidification of a liquid, solidifiable moulding composition (e.g. a curable resin or a matter thermoplastic resin that solidifies on cooling) provided around the periphery of the filter element. The method may comprise the steps of: (i) providing a filter element having front and rear faces and a bounding peripheral edge, (ii) locating around the peripheral edge of the element a mould unit which seals against peripheral regions of the front and rear faces and which together with the peripheral edge defines a mould cavity, (iii) filling the mould cavity with a solidifiable, liquid moulding composition, (iv) effecting conversion of the liquid to a solid, and (v) removing the mould thereby producing the filter element.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2011Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Nationwide Filter Company (Specialist Products) LimitedInventor: Frederick Ian Wood

Patent number: 8696340Abstract: A re-usable retainer designed to be used in the curing process of co-bonding uncured stringers. The re-usable retainer is made of metal so it is not necessary to manufacture one retainer for each manufactured stringer. The metallic retainer is placed in direct contact with the uncured resin so the cured stringer has a very good surface quality. The re-usable retainer has a special shape that allows a mild transition of the vacuum bag that avoids vacuum bag breakages. The re-usable retainer is easy to install and to remove.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2011Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Airbus Operations, S.L.Inventors: Julián Sánchez Fernández, Federico López Pérez, Yolanda Miguez Charines
