Abstract: A game is provided in which a horse race is simulated. The game layout includes a contiguous lane divided into a plurality of spaces, each of which is designated with a particular task or event. A unique space, designated the Winner's Circle, is located at or near the center of the board and is connected to the contiguous lane by at least one space, designated the Stretch. A player's token moves around the board a number of spaces within the lane according to the outcome of a random number generator. A player landing on a space will take one of a series of action determined by the designation of the space on which his or her token lands. Three sets of spaces, designated WIN, PLACE or SHOW, direct the player to answer a horse racing trivia question selected at random by another player. If the player answers correctly, he or she is awarded a pari-mutual ticket, which is used to place a wager on a simulated horse race. Simulated horse races are run whenever a player lands on a space designated for a race.

  • Patent number: 5839726
Abstract: The present invention provides a dice game having a horse-racing theme which includes a number of horses in the race the number of which corresponds to the number of sides of a single die. In play, preferably 3 dice are used. When a number representing a horse is rolled by any of the dice used, that horse is moved a distance referred to as a "furlong." If the horse's number appears on more than one die in a single roll, then the horse is moved a comparable number of furlongs. For example, if 3 dice are used and the numbers 6-6-2 are rolled, the number 2 horse moves 1 furlong, while the number 6 horse moves 2 furlongs. Thus, each horse begins a race with equal odds of winning, and each horse must go the same distance in order to complete the race. The present invention provides for standard horse racing wagers on the eventual outcome of the race, such as win, place, and show.

Abstract: Discs bearing markings or other indicators that differentiate them from each other are used to randomly select one of a number of possible outcomes. The discs may thus be used to introduce an element of chance in games. Each disc has two sides, one of which is marked with a number. The discs may be grouped into sets. The number marked on each disc in a set is the same as that of all other discs in that set, but is different from that of all discs in other sets. To use the discs to randomly select an outcome, a person stacks all the discs on top of one another. The person then topples the stack by tossing a heavier or larger disc at the stack. The outcome may be used to play a board game. Each disc may have several distinct types of indicators. Each indicator type may correspond to a different game, and each indicator type may be used in a different way to determine the outcome of that game. Alternatively, an indicator type may be used to determine a number of spaces to move a playing piece on the game board.

  • Patent number: 5139267
Abstract: A racing game utilizing a game board which simulates an auto race course is disclosed. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a board game which provides features similar to a NASCAR auto race. Each player receives a racing car game piece and a crew chip. Upon spinning the dial during the player's turn, the player places his crew chip on the board space corresponding to the spin number and then takes a card from either of two stacks depending on the color of the space occupied by the crew chip. If the player answers correctly the question on the card, he moves his game piece to the space occupied by the crew chip and removes the crew chip. If he answers incorrectly, the crew chip is withdrawn and the game piece remains in the position occupied at the beginning of the turn. Play continues as the game pieces are moved around the board with bonus points and penalties being received depending on the space occupied by the player during the course of the game.

Abstract: A race game includes an oval track structure arranged with a plurality of contiguous concentric tracks, wherein the tracks each include a plurality of spaces. The game includes tokens and die members, and wherein each of the spaces is formed with contrasting enumeration in associated with the die members, wherein players in turn direct respective tokens along the spaces in diametrical, horizontal, and straight-line orientations to correspond to a movement of a token from adjacent enumerated spaces corresponding to enumerated spaces directed by the die members. A plurality of the spaces are associated with directional cards of reward and punishment types to introduce an element of change into play of the game.

  • Patent number: 5106098
Abstract: A horse racing game apparatus is provided in which two or more people play on a game board by moving playing pieces around race-track shaped path. The path is two independent and concentric tracks that simulates dirt and turf track conditions, respectively. Players have a score card, to keep track of points, a racing horse card, to determine strengths and weaknesses of their horse during play, and a racing card, to determine the type of track to use in a given race as well as the potential prize money. Throughout the game, players pick cards to determine the course of play. Such cards include Weather Cards, Longshot Cards, Inquiry Cards and Photo Finish Cards. The object of the game is to score the most number of points and gain the most prize money. Due to the added parameters found in actual horse racing, the apparatus of the present invention can closely simulate horse race track action.

  • Patent number: 5092605
Abstract: A method of playing a racing board game. The board comprises a race course having a starting position, a finish line and six lanes. The lanes are divided into a plurality of spaces. There are six distinguishable playing pieces and each player is assigned a playing piece and a lane. Six standard cubical dice, each die numbered from "1" to "6" to correspond to the six playing pieces, are used to determine movement of the playing pieces. The board further comprises shaded spaces on the lanes and six separate storage locations for placing chips. The storage locations correspond to the six finishing positions, e.g. 1st place, 2nd place, . . . , 6th place. When a playing piece lands on a shaded space, that player, to his advantage, must place a chip in a storage location in which he thinks his piece will finish the race. As the race progresses, the player whose piece crosses the finish line first is given all the chips stored in the storage location corresponding to 1st place.

Abstract: A strategic naval warfare board game includes a game board having a playing surface with compass headings and position indicia. The playing surface has a plurality of squares of alternating colors arranged contiguously in a checkerboard fashion and naval bases at the corners. A plurality of primary playing pieces, representing five different types of naval vessels, include a base member and a post of different heights mounted on the base member in an upright position. A plurality of secondary playing pieces in the form of cylindrical rings are adapted to be loosely mounted on the posts of the primary playing pieces in a stacked arrangement and removable therefrom. The ring-shaped secondary playing pieces represent either a unit or power or a unit of damage. A stacked arrangement of secondary playing pieces which represent units of power on a primary playing piece is indicative of the relative strength of the primary playing piece for movement, fire power and repair.

Abstract: A board game for simulating a white-water rafting course wherein two or more players attempt to be the first to reach the finish line. A game board is utilized that depicts a white water stream divided into a plurality of spaces with game pieces in the form of rafts being moved along the spaces according to the roll of a single die. Various spaces on the course have instructions for further action by the player and include picking a card from a deck of pick cards with additional instructions. A three-dimensional HO scale railroad segment and flat car serve as the launch mechanism for each game piece. Each player selects a flag representing the nation of his choice for the race and installs this flag on his raft game piece prior to launch thereof. Hazards on the white-water cource include a three-dimensional drawbridge that must be manually opened by each player and a three-dimensional portage route that may be traversed, depending upon the roll of the die.
