Particular Dimensions Or Configuration Of Sealing Bead Or Formation Patents (Class 277/594)
  • Patent number: 11732802
Abstract: A sealing system for an engine comprising a single layer of sheet material, the sheet having an upper surface adapted to sealably contact a first engine component and a lower surface adapted to sealably contact a second engine component, and bead portions profiled on the gasket, where the gasket profile is optimized with varying heights and widths so as to create portions of varying stiffness adjacent to one another. The bead portions are profiled so as to be concentric with a combustion or cylinder chamber of the engine, and the bead portions include a portion of high stiffness adjacent to a portion of high recovery, the portion of high stiffness having a sharper angle protruding away from the plane comprising the single layer gasket than for the adjacent portion of high recovery. The optimized profile allows use of single layer gaskets to replace multiple layer gaskets.

Abstract: A multi-layer insert for a gasket having a retention tab having a first position and a second position is provided. The multi-layer insert includes a first plate, a second plate having the retention tab formed therein, and a third plate. The first plate and the second plate are coupled to the third plate. The retention tab in the first position partially defines a first profile of the second plate and the retention tab in the second position extends outwardly from the first profile of the second plate. An indent formed in the third plate receives a portion of the second plate when the retention tab is placed in the second position.

  • Patent number: 8342537
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket includes a plurality of metal plates including a first metal plate having a first hole to be sealed and a bead around the first hole, and a second metal plate laminated under the first metal plate and having a second hole corresponding to the first hole. Concavities and convexities are formed at the second metal plate concentrically around the second hole for increasing an apparent plate thickness of the second metal plate. The concavities and convexities are provided continuously at a position corresponding to the foot portion or the top portion of the bead of the first metal plate. The concavities and convexities have a height and width smaller than those of the bead, and have a deformation characteristic due to a surface pressure when compressed, smaller than that of the bead.
