An elastic sealing material is fixed to the convex portion of the metal bead and filled in a concave portion on the reverse side of the base plate to form a rubber bead, and the sealing material is deformed under compression in the through-thickness direction in cooperation with the deformation of the metal bead when the gasket is fastened with clamping bolts.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2008Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Japan Metal Gasket Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kosaku Ueta, Hideo Watanabe

Publication number: 20120175847Abstract: A cylinder head gasket seals combustion chamber openings with two exterior active sealing layers and a central spacer layer. In web areas between adjacent combustion openings, each opening beginning of the active layers has a land, where a circumferential main stopper is formed with the central spacer layer between the lands. Each active layer further has longitudinal waves formed with the active layer which, when compressed, form a longitudinal support wave stopper(s) in the web areas. Each web area active layer further has a full bead(s) in contact with the central spacer layer. For each exterior layer, in one case, two beads come together to form a single central web area bead that separates two wave stoppers. In another case, the two outer bead portions come together upon entering the central web area while a single wave stopper is formed between the two inner bead portions.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2011Publication date: July 12, 2012Inventors: Frank W.
