  • Patent number: 7073795
Abstract: A metallic gasket having a first seal line SL1 arranged in a manner to encircle the peripheral edge of an exhaust gas hole 3, a second seal line SL2 arranged along the outer peripheral edge of a base plate 2, and full beads 6, 7 formed each in a convex cross-section by bending the base plate 2 along both seal lines. Elastic sealing material 8 to 11, the height of which is substantially equal to the height of a convex portion of the beads, are fixed to the convex portion and a flat surface continuous to the convex portion. The elastic sealing material on the flat surface is so arranged as to cover up to the opening mouth position of the exhaust gas hole 3 or a peripheral edge position of the base plate 2 and, furthermore, elastic material parts 12, 13 are filled in a concave portion of the bead on the reverse side of the convex portion. This structure of the gasket leads to cost reduction and enables the gasket to maintain a stable sealing performance for a long period of time.

  • Patent number: 6328313
Abstract: A gasket comprises a thin plate to be arranged between confronting surfaces of a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The thin plate has attached with adhesives susceptible to plastic deformation at areas where the thin plate comes in mating with the confronting surfaces. The adhesives come in adhesion with the confronting surfaces to restrain relative displacement that might occur constantly between the mating surfaces of the plate and the confronting surfaces. This contributes to keeping the gasket stiff. The adhesives of plastic deformation property are arranged along peripheries of cylinder bore holes at the areas where the thin plate comes in mating with the confronting surfaces. The adhesives, when have come in adhesion with the confronting surfaces, not only establish the reliable head-to-block sealing, but also restrain the displacement that might occurs constantly between the mating surfaces, in favor of plastic deformation of the adhesives.

  • Patent number: 6318733
Abstract: A metal laminate gasket is installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one hole therein. The gasket includes a first metal plate, a second metal plate situated over the first metal plate, and an auxiliary sealing member. The first plate includes a base portion, a curved portion to define a first hole, and a flange extending from the curved portion. The flange, the curved portion and a part of the base portion constitute a main sealing portion without substantial elasticity. The second plate has a large second hole and is situated above the base portion of the first plate. The sealing member is situated in a space between an edge of the second hole and the flange. The main sealing portion non-resiliently seals around the hole, while the sealing member resiliently seals outside the main sealing portion, so that even if the engine is made of light metal, the engine is not damaged by the gasket. The gasket can securely seal around the hole.

Abstract: A soft gasket material having two opposed facial surfaces and an edge that is substantially perpendicular to those surfaces has a coating on the edge. The coating has a thickness length B which is a distance extending directly from the edge at its center point to the coat's outer surface. The coating further covers the edge from side to side and extends past at least one corner of the edge in a protruding length A which is an amount that is effective to form a barrier against the passage of fluids onto the face of the gasket. In coatings where the protruding length A is not supported by the gasket face, the ratio of protruding length A: thickness length B must be at least about 0.8, protruding length A must be a minimum of at least about 4 mils, and thickness length B must be a minimum of at least about 3 mils. In coatings where the protruding length A is supported by the gasket face (a distance C), the ratio of protruding length A: thickness length B can be at least about 0.

  • Patent number: 6068407
Abstract: The invention permits stacking of seals without possibility of the sticking of their synthetic rubber seal members to one another. Moreover, when assembling the seals to produce anti-friction bearings, the invention permits storing the seals as a stack in a stocker of an automatic assembler and, unlike the case of using silicon or like prior art anti-sticking material, substantially eliminates generation of fine particles or the like adversely affecting precision apparatuses and deteriorating the reliability thereof. In an anti-friction bearing comprising an inner ring (1), an outer ring (2), and rolling elements (3) provided between the inner and outer rings, a side gap between the inner and outer rings is closed by seals (4) of the invention, which each include a synthetic rubber seal member (6) and a surface active material (7) coated thereon.
