The actuator can be activated and deactivated by selectively supplying electrical energy to the actuator. When electrical energy is supplied to the actuator, the actuator can have a reduced cross-sectional profile such that the interface is not sealed and movement of the second vehicle structure is not impeded by the seal. When electrical energy is not supplied to the actuator, the actuator can be in a non-activated condition in which the interface is substantially sealed.

A plunger body including an adhesive-filled cavity is inserted into the seal housing, such that a piston expresses the adhesive into the space between the seal housing and the plunger body. The adhesive may contain reflective particles and is cured to fix the particles and the adhesive in place. A reference image may be taken to record the unique identifier and reflective signature of the adhesive. Future validation images may be compared to the reference image to determine whether the reflective signature has changed, thus indicating that the seal has been tampered with.

The strip can be metallic or a plastic material. The method includes retrofitting existing screens with a new sealing strip by first removing any cushion cap material and then placing the T shaped seal strip over the support rails.

A sealing member is a cloth-inserted rubber 21 having flexibility. The cloth-inserted rubber 21 has a first end being fixed to a fixing member 24s on a cover plate 20 mounted on a side of an outer ring 7 and a second end being fixed to another fixing member 25s on a side of the drive shaft 10 in liquid tight manner in the axial direction of a drive shaft 10. Each of the first and second ends of the cloth-inserted rubber 21 has a face extending in a direction that is perpendicular to the axial direction. The cloth-inserted rubber 21 seals the lubricant at the face of said each of the first and second ends.

    Abstract: A final drive transmission includes concentric inner and outer metal face seals at an interface between fixed and rotating housing sections for preventing oil contaminating material from entering the housing. Each face seal includes identical metal face seal rings that are biased into sealing engagement with each by identical frusto-conical elastomeric rings. The metal rings are generally L-shaped in cross section, with the metal rings of the outer face seals being constructed to withstand extreme conditions by making their cross section approximately twice that of the inner metal rings. Together with interface surfaces, the assembled inner and outer face seals define a sealed cavity which contains lubrication oil. A reservoir of oil with an oil level sensor is coupled to the sealed cavity and in this way it is determined whether or not oil is leaking from the cavity so that steps may be taken to avoid a catastrophic failure.
